Calibrate a Balance

In the laboratory, the balance used for weighing samples may require calibration to comply with internal or certification standards. You can either click the Calibration icon before starting to weigh samples or set a calibration schedule for the balance. For more details, see Set up Balance Calibration and View Calibration Log. This activity describes how to perform a balance calibration.

Activity Steps

  1. In the Laboratory Job page, locate and select the Job Number.
  2. Click Data.

    The Lab Job Data screen displays.

  3. If a calibration schedule is not set, click the Calibrate icon in the corresponding data entry window to begin a calibration. If a schedule is set, the Add Instrument Test screen automatically displays as per the schedule.

  4. Enter a Comment and click OK.

    The connected instrument name and parameters display in the Instrument category group.

  5. To enter the weights manually:
    1. Set the Mode to Manual.
    2. Click the first cell in the Found Value column.
    3. Enter the found weight value.

      The variance column automatically calculates the variance between the accepted and found values.

    4. Repeat steps b-c to enter all the weight values.
  6. To enter the weights with the connected balance:
    1. Set the Mode to Auto.
    2. Click the first cell in the Found Value column.
    3. Press Enter or press the dedicated button on the balance instrument to send the weight to the cell.
    4. Repeat steps b-c to enter all the weight values.
