Enter Initial Sample Weight
After a batch is logged, the initial weight for each sample can be recorded in the Sample Batches page. You can enter the weights manually using a configured balance or import the weights from an Excel file. With the Excel file you can also import the sample location and sample storage.
The total weight is automatically calculated and displays at the bottom of the screen.
Activity Steps
- Locate and select the sample batch in the Sample Batches page.

Click Data in the menu.
The Capture Data screen displays.
- To enter the weights manually, enter the weight for each sample as required.

To enter the weights using a balance:
Note: To calibrate the balance prior entering the weights, see Calibrate a Balance.

Note: If a balance is configured, an OPEN message displays in green. Otherwise, a CLOSE message displays in red in the Instrument category group.

Select the cell and press Enter or press the dedicated button on the balance instrument to send the weight to the cell.

If the port status appears as CLOSED, the balance may not be selected correctly.
- Select the balance instrument.
Click Read.
The Serial Communication screen displays.
Select the Instrument.
Select the Template.
Click OK.

Set the Mode to Auto.
- Select the balance instrument.
- To import the data from an Excel file:
- Click Import.
Browse and select the Excel file.
The Import Analytical Data screen displays.
Select Overwrite existing data to replace any weight, location or storage data.
Select whether the Samples in the Excel file are identified by Lab Code or Client ID.
- Click the icon next to the Column Headings field.
The selected Excel file opens and the Obtain Range Object screen displays.
Select the required column headings from the spreadsheet.
Click OK.
Click the icon next to the Row Headings field.
The selected Excel file opens and the Obtain Range Object screen displays.
Select the required row heading from the spreadsheet.
Click OK.
Click Next.
Click Match to match the headings.
AssayNet LIMS matches any headings that are identical in both the Data Capture and the Spreadsheet tables.
Note: No data is imported for unmatched headings. You must manually match the columns.
- To manually match any unmatched column headings, select the heading from the Data Capture and the Spreadsheet tables.
Click the Add Data Option icon.
Click Next.
Click Match to match the data.
AssayNet LIMS matches any identical Lab Code or Client in both the Submittal and the Spreadsheet tables.
To manually match any unmatched Lab Code or Client, select this data from the Submittal and the Spreadsheet tables.
Click Next.
Click the Add Data Option icon.
Click Finish.
Click Close.

To change and filter the data display:

Select the Sample ID from Lab Code or Client ID.

Set Display to Product to display a Product column.

Edit sample batch options:

Click Edit.
The Edit Sample Batch Options screen displays.

Select the following options as required:
-
Create Products—Not in use.
-
Use Templates—Use a prep template. For more information see, Add a Preparation Template.

QC Samples in Separate Client Jobs—Separate QC for the batch in a different client job.
-
Require Sample Scan—Require the sample to be scanned when creating the laboratory job.

Auto Print on Data Entry

Measure QC Samples—Calculate QC samples.

Show Measurement Totals—Displays the Total weight at the bottom of the screen.
- Allow Manual Data Entry—Disable manual entry of weight data in the Data Capture screen.
- Allow Calibration Bypass—Bypass balance calibration.

If Use Template is checked, select the Prep Template.
Note: If a prep template is selected, you might need to close and reopen the Data Capture screen to display the template.

Update the following fields as required:

Units—The units for the sample weight to be entered in the Data Capture screen.

Batch Size
-
Decimals—The number of decimal places for the sample weight.

Click OK.

- To print:
- Click Print.
The Print Preparation Products screen displays.
- Select from the Print Options.
- Click OK.
- Click Print.

To export the data to an Excel file, click Export.
