Create and Configure Methods
In AssayNet LIMS, methods represent standardized laboratory procedures that define how a particular analysis is performed. Each method is associated with a specific instrument type, ensuring that analytical results are processed consistently and according to established protocols.
Methods are unique to the laboratory procedure they represent. For example, Fire Assay with Gravimetric Finish and Fire Assay with Atomic Absorption (AA) Finish are two distinct methods—each follows a different process and uses a different instrument type. One is performed with a micro balance, while the other uses an AA instrument.
This association allows the system to identify the appropriate instrument when a new Instrument Run is created, ensuring that results are captured and processed using the correct method and equipment.
This activity describes the steps to create and configure methods in AssayNet LIMS and link them to their respective instrument types.
This activity presumes that Method Types have been created for the Methods. For more information, see Create Method Types.
Activity Steps
- On the Profile ribbon tab, under the Analysis group, click Methods.
The Analysis Methods screen displays.
- Click New.
The Add Analysis Method screen displays.
- Complete the following fields as required:
- Method Code—Unique identifier for the method; required for system reference.
- Method Name—Descriptive name of the analysis method for identification and reporting purposes.
- Date Created—The date the method is entered or created in the system.
- Active—Indicates whether the method is currently in use. If unchecked, the method is considered inactive and cannot be used.
- Method Type—Used to classify the method under a broader group (for example, Gravimetric, Titration, AA, ICP), helping to organize and filter methods.
- Instrument Type—Links the method to a specific instrument type (for example, AA, ICP, Balance), which helps the system determine which instrument is used when an Instrument Run is created.
- Area—Specifies the laboratory or operational area the method is associated with (for example, Wet Lab, Fire Assay).
- Author—Identifies the person or source responsible for developing or maintaining the method.
- Reference—Additional notes or internal references regarding the method, such as documentation names or version numbers.
- Click OK.
- To clone an existing method:
Note: An existing method can be cloned when its structure is similar to the new method.
- Select the existing Method that has similar characteristics.
- Click Clone.
The Edit Analysis Method screen displays.
- Update the fields as required.
- Click OK.
- To print the list of methods:
- Click Print.
- Right-click the screen and select Print from the menu.
- Click Close.
