Collect and scan samples

Scan each sample at the point of collection. The application checks the barcode against the expected sample list in the loaded submittal, so a barcode that does not belong to the submittal is reported in the field.

The network connection is not required for this activity.

Activity steps:

  1. On the home screen, tap the submittal.

The submittal opens on the SAMPLES tab. The Submittal and Fields tabs hold the submittal details and its custom fields.

  2. Attach a barcode tag to the sample.

  3. Scan the barcode on the tag.

On a rugged device, press the scan button on either side of the device. On a phone or tablet, tap SCAN to use the camera.

An existing sample is updated, and a sample that is not yet in the list is added. A message confirms which action was taken.

  4. To add a sample when the tag cannot be scanned:

    1. Tap Add.

    2. Tap Enter code.

    3. Enter the barcode or sample identifier.

    4. Tap OK.

If the identifier matches a sample, that sample is updated. If it does not, the application asks whether to create a new sample: tap YES to create it, or NO to cancel.

  5. To record details against a sample:

    1. Tap the sample in the list.

The Sample Details screen displays. To open this screen automatically on every scan, turn on Open sample on scan in the settings.

    2. Enter the Sample ID.

    3. Enter the Description.

    4. Select the Sample Type.

    5. Select the Prep Code.

The Sampled Date, Planned Location, and Sampled Location fields are filled in by the application.

  6. To set a custom field value for a sample:

    1. On the Sample Details screen, swipe to the Fields tab.

    2. Tap Add.

The Set Field Value screen displays.

    3. Select the Field.

    4. Enter the Value.

    5. Tap OK.

  7. To add a Non-Conformance Sample (NCS) code to a sample:

    1. On the Sample Details screen, swipe to the NCS tab.

    2. Tap Add.

      The Add NCS screen displays.

    3. Select the Code.

    4. Tap OK.
