Managing the Workbook Sample List
Overview
When a workbook is opened, it displays samples associated with each job, for the selected sample types, where the sample is registered for any selected scheme and analyte.
Process
The workbook samples list can:
- Show the rack number applicable to the sample when a single scheme or linked schemes are open in the workbook.
- Be rearranged, added to, or removed from the workbook.
- Be modified by launching the CCBTSM—Batch Sample Maintenance application to remove samples from laboratory batch jobs.
- Be modified by launching CCQCSM—QC Sample Modification application to add, remove or update QC samples in it.
- Have their workflow statuses modified by launching the CCSGRD—Sample Gridding application to set analytes to listed not received, insufficient sample, not analysed or no result.
Ordering of Samples in the Workbook
The ordering of samples in the workbook depends on a) the number of jobs opened, b) the number of schemes opened, and c) the selection of sample types. The following table provides the requirements for sorting for each combination:

The following scenarios demonstrate how samples are displayed.
Scenario 1
Samples U1..U10 were registered, and schemes and analytes added: Ana1—U1..U9 for Ana1, and Ana2—U1..U4,U8,U10.
The SamPrep scheme duplicated the fifth sample in every ten, and added one PBLK blank QC sample, and propagated both types of QC samples into Ana1 and Ana2 schemes.
The Ana1 scheme replicated a random sample in every ten unknown samples, and added one BLK1 blank QC sample, and one STD1 standard QC sample.
The Ana2 scheme replicated a random sample in every ten unknown and duplicate samples, added one BLK2 blank QC sample and two STD2 standard QC samples.
Therefore the sample schemes that exist for schemes in the job are:

Opening Ana1 only, in Final result mode
If a workbook is opened for multiple jobs, one scheme, or linked or unlinked schemes, with Sample Types set to Include All QC Samples, when the workbook sample grid is displayed, then the samples from one job are displayed first, then the samples from the next job are displayed next, etcetera for all jobs. Samples from each job are included as follows:
- All samples regardless of the sample's Primary Analytical Type are included.
- Samples are sequence by the sample scheme's Registration Sequence (order of the samples within the job scheme).
- The samples on display are limited by the selected racks, and are displayed with a rack indicator based on the sample scheme's Rack Number.
