Configuring Result Release and Validation

The cascade engine cascades workflow, composite QC and composite specification statuses from lower levels to the job level so that a job's statuses reflect the state of the analysis within it.

Refer to Appendix—Cascade Engine.

Various scheme and analyte properties and preference settings affect the logic in the cascade engine. Configuring the Setting of Statuses on Sample Scheme Analytes.

A sample scheme analyte's Workflow Status is set when:

  • The sample is marked as listed but not received.
  • The sample scheme analyte is marked as having insufficient sample.
  • The sample scheme analyte is marked as being not analysed.
  • The sample scheme analyte is marked as having no result.
  • The sample scheme analyte is reset to not being started.
  • The sample scheme analyte's result is cleared.
  • The sample scheme analyte's result is released.
  • The sample scheme analyte's result is validated.

A sample scheme analyte's Composite QC Status is cascaded from the sample scheme analyte's Scheme Limit Status, Standard Status, Precision Status and Specification Status which are set during QC assessment after the entry or clearing of a result. QC assessment sets these statuses to Not Required where the sample's Primary Analytical Type is Unknown and the Secondary Analytical Type is empty, or where the related analyte is configured to be not assessed for QC. Refer to Maintaining Scheme Version Analytes to configure an analyte to be assessed for QC.

A sample scheme analyte's Composite Specification Status is cascaded from each sample scheme analyte specification's Specification Status.

Configuring the Cascade of Statuses from Sample Scheme Analyte to Sample Scheme and Job Scheme Analyte

A sample scheme's Workflow Status, Composite QC Status and Composite Specification Status reflect the statuses of all related sample scheme analytes, that is, by sample.

A job scheme analyte's Workflow Status, Composite QC Status and Composite Specification Status reflect the statuses of all related sample scheme analytes, that is, by analyte.

A scheme version analyte's Workflow Active check box controls whether an analyte is considered in the cascade of statuses. Where an analyte is considered in the cascade, then the Allow Null Result check box controls whether the analyte can have no result but not impact on the sample scheme or job scheme analyte's Workflow Status being set to Completed, as long as there is at least one other result below the sample scheme or job scheme analyte. Refer to Maintaining scheme version analytes to configure an analyte that has a null result as though it is complete.

When cascading Workflow Status from the sample scheme analyte to the sample scheme or job scheme analyte level, there is often the requirement that as soon as the sample scheme analyte's Workflow Status becomes Analysed, it is released automatically. Refer to Maintaining Scheme Version Analytes to configure an analyte to be released automatically.

When cascading Workflow Status from the sample scheme analyte to the sample scheme or job scheme analyte level, there is often the requirement that as soon as the sample scheme analyte's Workflow Status becomes Released, it is validated automatically. Refer to Maintaining Scheme Version Analytes. to configure an analyte to be validated automatically.

Configuring the Cascade of Statuses from Sample Scheme to Sample and Job Scheme

A sample's Workflow Status, Composite QC Status and Composite Specification Status reflect the statuses of all related sample schemes, that is, by sample.

A job scheme's Workflow Status, Composite QC Status and Composite Specification Status reflect the statuses of all related sample schemes, that is, by scheme.
