View the Profit and Loss of a Trade

Security Note: You need the Allow the user to view the Trade Explorer security right in the Menu user group security rights group for this activity.

Activity Steps

  1. Open the Trade Explorer.

Note: You can also view the profit and loss of a trade via the Trading tab of the Despatch Order. Right-click the trade and select View Profit And Loss from the menu.

  2. Find the trade. See Find Trades.
  3. If the View is Latest, right-click the trade and select View Profit And Loss from the menu.

The Trade Detail displays the flash P&L snapshot.

  4. If the View is Historical Total or Historical MTM, right-click a P&L value for a date and select View Profit And Loss from the menu.

The Trade Detail displays the historical P&L snapshot for that date.

  5. If the trading settings include creating a copy of trade P&L (see Specify Trading Settings), you can select a different P&L Date.

The P&L and MTM P&L columns display data for the selected date. See Trade Profit and Loss for a description of the data.

Security Note: The P&L is editable for users who have the Allow the user to enter adjustments in trade profit and loss security right in the Trading domain security rights group. See Adjust Trade Profit and Loss.

  6. To view the detail of all line items, right-click in the Profit And Loss table and select Expand All from the menu.
  7. To view a summary of the line items (that is, to view only the subtotals and totals), right-click in the Profit And Loss table and select Collapse All from the menu.
  8. To recalculate the P&L:
    1. If viewing the flash P&L, right-click in the Profit And Loss table and select Queue Recalculation from the menu.

      A message about saving displays.

    2. If viewing an historical P&L, right-click in the Profit And Loss table and select Queue Historical Recalculation from the menu.

      A message about saving displays.

Note: You cannot recalculate an historical P&L if the P&L is in a Profit and Loss report for a date that is on or later than the date of the historical P&L. For example, a Profit and Loss report for 30 June includes a trade P&L. Historical P&L of that trade up to and including 30 June cannot be recalculated. See Trading Profit and Loss Reports.

    3. Click OK.
    4. Click Save.
