Create a Discrete Unit Batch of Packages
Security Note: You need the Allow discrete unit maintenance security right in the Supply Chain user group security rights group for this activity.
Activity Steps
- Open the Batch Explorer.
- Right-click in the Batches table and select New From Template from the menu.
- Expand the Packing Template Categories node and select the packing template from those defined on the Supply Chain panel of the Solution Explorer.
The Discrete Unit Batch displays.
- Update the Name if required.
- Enter a Batch Reference if required.
- Update the Batch Start Date if required.
Packages cannot be created with a Package Date that is before the batch start date. Default: Start of the current shift, if a Default Shift Definition is defined for the Packing Process Flow; otherwise defaults to the current system date and time.
- Select the Batch End Date if required.
Packages cannot be created with a Package Date that is after the batch end date.
- Enter a Comment if required. The comment is about the batch, and is not applied to the packages.
- Select the Package Date on which the packages in the discrete unit batch are to be created.
Must be between the Batch Start Date and Batch End Date. Default: Start of the previous shift, if a Default Shift Definition is defined for the packing process flow; otherwise defaults to the current system date and time.
If a Default Shift Definition is defined for the packing process flow, the Shift, Shift Definition, Shift Start and Shift End display. These fields are read-only.
- Select a Destination Division if required. Select from the discrete unit divisions defined on the Supply Chain panel of the Solution Explorer. Only discrete unit divisions under the destination location of the selected Packing Process Flow display. Default: If the Packing Template has a discrete unit division as its Location, that discrete unit division is the default destination division.
- The packing template defines the default values for the following fields. Update these fields if required.
- Packing Process Flow—Used to create the packages from bulk materials. Select from the packing process flows defined on the Supply Chain panel of the Solution Explorer that have the package location as the destination location for a packing process flow when packaging, or have the package location as the source location for a packing process flow when recycling the package (unpacking).
- Source Stockpiles—Select from the stockpiles at the various locations that are a source location for the packing process flow.
- Package Type—Select from the package types defined on the Supply Chain panel of the Solution Explorer.
- Product—Select from the Allowed Products of the package type.
- Number Of Units
- Net Mass
- Preserve Tare Mass—Whether to preserve the tare mass of packages. If checked, a tare mass can be specified, and the gross mass is calculated as the net mass plus the tare mass. If unchecked, the net mass and gross mass can be edited separately, and the tare mass is not stored for the package type.
- Tare Mass
- Gross Mass
- Mass UOM—Select from the Mass units defined in the Unit Conversion Editor.
- Number Of Packages To Create
- Sample Template—Default sample template from which to create a sample for the batch each time packages are created or added. Select from the sample templates defined for the process flow.
- Packing Sample Size—Number of packages per sample. Example: A Sample Template is selected and Packing Sample Size is 10. The discrete unit batch is used multiple times to create packages:
- Twenty packages are created. Two samples (Sample-001 and Sample-002) are created. Each sample is assigned to 10 packages.
- Thirteen packages are created. Two samples (Sample-003 and Sample-004) are created. Sample-003 is assigned to 10 packages and Sample-004 is assigned to 3 packages.
- Fifteen packages are created. One sample (Sample-005) is created. Sample-004 is assigned to the first 7 packages because the sample did not have the full number of packages from the previous transaction. Sample-005 is assigned to the remaining 8 packages.
Note: If a sample template is selected, but no packing sample size is specified, one sample is created each time packages are created for the discrete unit batch. However, this functionality is only possible if the Packing Sample Size on the packing template is blank. If the packing template has a packing sample size, the default Packing Sample Size in the discrete unit batch can be changed to another value, but cannot be made blank or zero.
- Click Create Packages.
- Confirm the package creation.
Note: More packages can be created for the batch later if required, with the same settings or with modified settings. However, after the first packages have been created for the batch, the Packing Process Flow and Sample Template cannot be changed.
- Click Save.
Note: If the Package status definition exists, the packages are assigned the initial status. This status definition controls whether the packages are editable and selectable. See Status Definitions.
