Create a Vessel

Security Note: You need the Allow vessel maintenance security right in the Vessels domain security rights group for this activity.

Activity Steps

  1. Select the Transport panel in the Solution Explorer.
  2. Expand the Vessels » Vessel Types node.
  3. Right-click a vessel type and select New » Bulk Vessel from the menu.

    The Bulk Vessel displays.

  4. Update the Vessel Name if required.

    If you change the vessel name after the vessel has been saved for the first time, a record is added to the Previous Names table.

  5. Enter the International Maritime Organisation IMO Number if required.
  6. Complete the following fields on the Details tab as required.
    • Country of Origin
    • Year Built
    • Lloyds Number
    • Holding Capacity
    • Capacity Unit—Select from the Mass units defined in the Unit Conversion Editor.
    • Dead Weight (Tonnes)
    • Draft—The vertical distance between the waterline and the bottom of the hull or keel.
    • Gross Tonnage
    • Net Tonnage
    • Number of Cranes
    • Grab Capacity—Amount of material, in tonnes, that can be grabbed and loaded or unloaded in one haul.
    • Equipment—Select from the equipment items defined on the Supply Chain panel of the Solution Explorer.
    • Vessel Owner
    • Registration Port Code
    • Email Address
    • Inmarsat Phone Number—Satellite-based telecommunications calling system phone number used to contact the vessel.
    • Telex Number
    • LOA—Length overall of the vessel, in metres.
    • Beam—Measured in metres.
    • Width Of Cargo Area—Measured in metres.
    • Length of Cargo Area—Measured in metres.
    • Deballasting Rate
    • Deballasting Rate UOM—Select from the Loading Rates units defined in the Unit Conversion Editor.
    • Geared
    • Vessel Notes

    Note: The Vessel Class is determined from the vessel transport class for which the Minimum Tonnage is greater than the Holding Capacity of the vessel.

  7. Define the bulk vessel structure:
    1. Select the Structure tab.

      Note: Bulk vessels are created with one hold and one hatch. You can add holds and hatches in each hold as required.

    2. Update the Vessel Hold number for the first hold in the Vessel Holds field group if required.
    3. Complete the following fields if required.
      • Volume
      • Volume Unit—Select from the Volume units defined in the Unit Conversion Editor.
      • Local Centre of Gravity—Comment on the centre of gravity for loading purposes.
    4. Update the Vessel Hatch number for the first hatch in the first hold in the Vessel Hold Hatches field group if required.
    5. To add a hatch within the hold, right-click in the Vessel Hold Hatches field group and select New from the menu.
    6. To add a hold, right-click in the Vessel Holds field group or the outer section of the Vessel Graphic and select New from the menu.
  8. Click Save.

    Note: If the Bulk Vessel status definition exists, the vessel is assigned the initial status. This status definition controls whether the vessel is editable and selectable. See Status Definitions.
