Data Quarantine

Production Accounting includes 'quarantine' functionality that works in conjunction with Data Authorisation processes to ensure data integrity. Quarantine functionality can be configured for logsheet data and discrete unit data.

Quarantine overview

Data quarantine is activated when a user or an integrated system attempts to update data that has already been authorised.

Once the highest level of data authorisation for each period is complete (usually Level 2), a quarantine 'lock' is automatically applied to associated data entry screens. Any subsequent attempt by an integrated system to update data (such as an integrated LIMS updating an assay value) or a by user to manually edit data is trapped by the quarantine system.

The quarantine lock prevents any new or edited data from being applied directly to the Production Accounting calculation environment. Instead, quarantined data is presented to an authorised user for review and acceptance or rejection. Only if the data is accepted are the updates applied to the live system, in which case all related calculations are automatically updated.

Quarantine alerts for manual data entry

If you attempt to update data in a logsheet that has a quarantine lock applied, the system displays quarantine alerts when you save your changes. The 'old' value (that is, the value used when the data authorisation process was approved) displays in the logsheet with a red quarantine icon next to it.

Hovering your mouse over (legacy logsheet) or clicking (modern logsheet) the quarantine icon displays the 'new' value that is currently quarantined. The value you manually entered displays after the initial save, but a screen refresh restores the old value and the quarantined symbol remains. No calculations are performed using the new (quarantined) value.

Note: If a cell is blank but displays a quarantine icon, this means that the cell originally had no data but a value was entered after the quarantine lock was applied. This is expected behaviour.

Quarantine alerts for integrated data

Integration settings that enable logsheets to receive external data may not be visible in the Production Accounting web application. As a result, when a value is updated via an integration, the logsheet does not display a quarantine icon next to the value. These quarantined values are still listed in the Quarantine Browser (see below).

Home screen quarantine notifications

Users who have permissions to accept and reject data are notified about pending quarantine items on their Production Accounting Home screen . A count of quarantined items and a link to the quarantine browser is included in the home screen notifications.

Quarantine email notifications

From Production Accounting 1.13, automated email notifications can be set up to notify users when data is quarantined and needs review. Email notification functionality must be enabled as part of the Production Accounting installation and Datamine consultants set up the required email registrations and message templates during system configuration.

Quarantine notification emails include a summary of quarantined data and a link to the Production Accounting quarantine browser. If you receive a quarantine email, click the link to open the quarantine browser and review the data.

Quarantine Browser

Quarantined data is reviewed and either accepted or rejected in the Quarantine Browser screen. Users with access can view a complete list of quarantined items, including pending (or 'held') data and rejected data. There are separate quarantine browser screens for logsheet data and discrete unit data.
