The Common Vectors driver category contains OGR (Open Source Geospatial Foundation) drivers, used to import GIS point and string data in a number of formats.
Note: GIS data is generally separated into 2 types: vector data, which consists of points, lines and polygons; and raster data, which consists of regular grids. The GIS community has developed an open source translator library called GDAL which handles a large variety of raster/grid data, and also contains a component called OGR which handles simple vector data.
