Network Timeouts

The network timeout is used for general communications between the host and the servers. This will invariably be faster than a broadcast response.

Check Out Limitations

Specify the maximum number of days that a license can be checked out from the license server.

Logging

Logging is an important tool for troubleshooting licensing problems. Three levels of logging are provided: Standard, Full and Extended. The level of detail reported to the log increases with each successive level. By default it is switched off (None).

Recommendations

  • Desktop implementations: no logging.

  • Servers: standard logging.

  • Troubleshooting: full or extended logging.

This logging is separate from, and shouldn't be confused with, the User Logging functions in License Manager. Logging applied at this level records the network-level commands/information that is passed back and forth between client and server, and is most commonly used when investigating network-related issues. In essence, this level of logging determines whether the client and server are able to 'talk' to each other effectively within the current IT infrastructure.

User Logging, by comparison, is used to track key licensing events on the host machine (lock, unlock, check in, check out) as a way of gain a better understanding of how your current licensing stock is used throughout a given reporting period (daily, monthly quarterly, yearly).
