Maintenance Keys

Types of maintenance keys that are available

Maintenance Keys

There are three types of maintenance key and each has a specific purpose:

Admin Key (Reset/Checkin/Checkout)
Change Dongle Number

Change Serial Number

Admin Key

License Services has been designed to tolerate the results of many everyday problems such as system crashes and power outages which may shutdown a program but leave its license locked. License Services will, if the program is restarted immediately, resume using the locked license. If more than about 3 minutes elapse before restarting the crashed program, License Services will "clean" itself up by unlocking the license and making it available again.

There may be circumstances, however, when the license remains locked, the "unlock" or "reset" license options cannot free the license, and in these cases, the system may ask for a "maintenance key" to unlock the license. You will need to contact your Datamine dealer to acquire a key.

If a machine name is changed without using the proper procedure this may cause the License Manager to "tamper lock" and you will be asked to get a maintenance key before it will unlock.

This type of key would also be used for solving any problems that may occur with checked out licenses.

Change Dongle Number

If you need, for any reason, to change your dongle you will need a special maintenance key, which will require you to provide the two dongle numbers, old and new.

Change Serial Number

Similarly, if you change hard drives and the license are keyed against the obsolete one, you will need a special key. Both serial numbers will be needed.
