Planes folder menu
To access this menu:

In the Project Data control bar, active Map sub-folder, right-click the Planes sub-folder.
The Planes folder menu is used to import, load and manage plane data in the active 3D window. A plane is a 3d data point with an assigned dip and dip direction.
The settings described here apply to the currently active 3D window and all linked external windows. Independent windows will be unaffected. |
The following menu options are available:
Load: select this option to import a planes file using the Data Import dialog (this makes use of the Data Source Drivers and allows files of various file formats to be imported to a Datamine format file in the current project)
Double-clicking the Planes folder will also display the Data Import dialog. |
Create from
Loaded Data:
select this option to load a planes file from the current project.
(If all available items of this object are already loaded and
viewable, or if no items of the specified type exist in the project
file, you will be alerted to this fact and the import operation will
cease.)
Clip All: choose to apply view clipping to all objects of the selected type. All overlays of the selected type will then be clipped according to the clipping settings of the current 3D window.
Clip None: choose to disable clipping for all visible overlays of the selected object type. If selected, all overlays will become fully visible in the target 3D view, regardless of the view clipping settings.
Show All: enable the display of all items held within the selected folder.
Hide All: disable the display of all items held within the selected folder.
Redraw All: redraw (refresh) the view of all items in the selected folder.
Apply Filter apply a previously saved Quick Filter to all overlays of the selected data type. See Quick Filters.
Delete All: remove all loaded GVP project items from your current scene - note that this will not delete the files from disc.

Importing, Loading and Creating Planes
Planes are added to this folder either by importing an external planes file, loading a Planes object from the current project, or by generating a plane from either an open or closed string. Your application can use strings digitised onto wireframes to specify key planes, for example for joint space analysis. As part of this, a variety of tools and visualisation methods are available to help with their generation and interpretation (for more information on generating planes in this way, see Planes Properties Dialog).An existing planes file can be imported using the data source drivers, by either right-clicking the root level of this folder and selectingImport, or you can (re)import a plane object already in memory by selecting theImport from Projectoption. Note that the imported file must contain the minimum required fields for a plane definition file.
Once added, each plane supports a context-sensitive right-click menu, containing the options listed below:
Plane Item Details:
Save: save the current overlay's data object without further prompts. For this option to be available, you will need to have already saved the associated object in memory to a file (e.g. using theData | Save Asoption - see below).
Note that you will only be able to save to the associated data file if it is writable, and you have the relevant access permissions.
Data: this option cascades the following sub-menu:
Reload...: reload the selected object into memory using new load/import settings.
Refresh...: refresh the selected object into memory using its associated data load/import settings.
Save As...: save the selected new 3D object to the project file or a new Datamine file. This option opens the Save New 3D Object dialog.
Export...: export the selected object to a Datamine or non-Datamine file, using the Data Export dialog.
To Excel...: export the selected object's table and open it in MS Excel. This provides an quick means of exporting data to *.xls format.
Microsoft Excel only supports a finite number of data rows, therefore, this option is not suitable for large data sets that have more data rows than this. If such a situation occurs and you are using Excel 2007, only the first 65535 rows of data will be displayed.
Unload...: unload the selected object data from memory.
This does not remove the file from the project (i.e. it remains listed in the Project Files control bar), nor does it remove the file from disk.
Copy Data From: append the selected object with data from another object of the same type using the Select Objects to Copy From dialog.
Extract: derive information held within currently loaded data objects, and create new objects based on the values contained within a selected field. Displays the Extract Data Object dialog.
Add Column: add a new attribute to the data object to which the overlay relates, using the Add Column dialog.
Make Current Object: to assign the data object associated with the selected overlay as the "current object", select this item - subsequent interactive 3D editing will be performed with respect to the current object. More about the current object.
Data Object Manager: displays the Data Object Manager, with the associated data object selected for further analysis. More...
Apply Clipping: by default, 3D window clipping will be applied to all object overlays once clipping is activated. You can choose to disable or apply clipping to any overlay independently using this toggle option. View clipping will only be applied to overlays that are 'clipping-enabled'.
Rename: rename the current planes overlay.
Properties: opens thePlanes Propertiesdialog, where you can set the visual display properties of the selected plane. More...
Use Template:
if you have defined one or more 3D display templates for the selected
overlay, you can see them listed here - simply select a template to automatically
update your currently-active
3D window view. This is particularly useful for checking one domain against
another, e.g. rock type against a grade.
Note that this menu option will only appear if at least one 3D template
has been defined for the selected overlay.
Look At: automatically orient the bearing and scale of the active 3D window to centre the selected object.

Redraw: refreshes the view of the selected plane.
Quick Legend: creates a numeric legend using theQuick Legenddialog.
Display Legend: preview the legend that is currently associated with the 3D object.
Legend Column: select any data field within the parent object from which the overlay was created. Once selected, the currently associated legend will be applied to the new column. Note that the fixed color will be used for any unmatched data.
Rename: rename the selected 3D overlay
Delete: remove the selected plane object from memory, and the 3D window.
