generate-distance-contours

See this command in the command table.

To access this command:

  • Report ribbon > Contours > Generate Contours > Generate Distance Contours.
  • Display the Find Command screen, locate generate-distance-contours and click Run.

  • Enter "generate-distance-contours" into the Command Line.

Command Overview

This command is used to model contours representing the distance from sample positions.

 A points file must be loaded to access this command. Attributes are not considered with this command.

The outputs from this command are (optionally) contours strings and an output grid model. You cannot generate an output surface with this command, as the resulting strings and grid model are assigned a fixed elevation.

By default, the grid model will lie just below the output strings, to allow them both to be visualized easily, for example:

You can change these settings using the Generate Contours - Output Data page.

This command uses the Generate Contours screen:

  1. Define the scope of contouring; select input objects.
  2. Define the extents of your contouring by setting a minimum and maximum X and Y of the data hull (with an optional margin) and the resolution of the output grid.
  3. Choose if you want to output contour strings and/or a grid object (a block model)
  4. Configure how contour strings are created; define the lowest and highest values (and interval) and at which elevation you wish your output data to be positioned.

Command Automation

You can automate by passing this command and parameters into oDmApp.ParseCommand(), using any COM-aware scripting language.

Note: For more information on scripting in Studio NPVS+, please refer to your Scripting Tutorial (Help > Scripting Tutorial).

Example Parameter String (JS):

oDmApp.ParseCommand("generate-distance-contours
'PointsInput=PTS;
GridOutput=DIST_GRID;
StringOutput=DIST_CONTOURS;
Azimuth=0;Dip=0;
GriddingAlgorithm=MinimumCurvature;
AutoExtent=true;Margin=0;
CustomCellSize=false;
CellsAcrossX=100;CellsAcrossY=100;
UseCustomContourExtents=false;
ContourStringMode=Fixed;
ContourStringIntervals=10;
ContourStringOffset=0;
ContourRefinement=5;
UseCustomGridElevation=false;
GridLegendMode=FromContours;GridFaultRefinement=1'";

Where:

  • PointsInput=PTS is the PointsInput: Object name. The object must resolve in the current project and is used as the source points data. The command does not run gridding unless this object is found.

  • Azimuth=0 is the Azimuth: Numeric angle in degrees. It defines the contouring plane rotation about the Z axis.

  • Dip=0 is the Dip: Numeric angle in degrees. It defines the contouring plane dip rotation.

  • GridOutput=DIST_GRID;StringOutput=DIST_CONTOURS is the Output target parameters: Select what the command creates. At least one output target must be supplied to create useful scripted output; supported targets include StringOutput, GridOutput, and SurfaceOutput.

  • UseCustomContourExtents=false;ContourStringMode=Fixed;ContourStringIntervals=10;ContourStringOffset=0;ContourRefinement=5 is the Contour-string output parameters: Used when StringOutput is supplied. These include custom contour extents, contour mode, intervals, offsets, elevation mode, fault handling, and refinement settings.

  • UseCustomGridElevation=false;GridLegendMode=FromContours;GridFaultRefinement=1 is the Grid output parameters: Used when GridOutput is supplied. These include custom grid elevation limits, fault refinement, and grid legend mode settings.

  • Not shown in example. is the Surface output parameters: Used when SurfaceOutput is supplied. These include surface fault refinement and surface tolerance settings.

  • GriddingAlgorithm=MinimumCurvature is the Gridding algorithm parameters: Control how the input values are interpolated. Supported gridding algorithms include MinimumCurvature, WeightedAverage, and TrendSurface.

  • AutoExtent=true;Margin=0;CustomCellSize=false;CellsAcrossX=100;CellsAcrossY=100 is the Grid extent and resolution parameters: Define the generated grid area and cell size, including automatic extents, margin, custom cell size, and cell counts or widths.

  • Not shown in example. is the Search ellipse parameters: Control optional search ellipse behaviour for non-trend gridding.

More Information

  • The parser only recognizes fields written as exactly one key=value pair separated by semicolons. Unknown keys are ignored.
  • Distance contours set the grid to distance-from-points mode after PointsInput is loaded.
