FMS Control Parameters

To access this dialog:

  • From the MAO-MFO Optimization Settings dialog, Optimization tab, select FMS Schedule Pushbacks and Adjust control parameters...

FMS uses a Mixed Integer Programming (MIP) formulation to optimize the schedule, subject to user defined targets and settings. The resolution of this formulation is performed for each period, one period at a time.

The FMS Control Parameters dialog allows the user to control several aspects of the MIP formulation and its resolution depending on the selected options.

Field Details:

Use Scheduler OES to select blocks that can be mined at a given period: if this checkbox is selected, the OES previously computed by the Scheduler is used to provide guidance on the sequence of extraction that is computed by FMS.

The FMS Period may include blocks up to: if the checkbox Use Scheduler OES… is selected when scheduling period 3, FMS will consider only the blocks that have been mined by the Scheduler during the first 3+X periods, where X is the user defined value.

For example; the user-defined value is 2 and the scheduling periods are in years. For year 1, FMS will only consider blocks mined by the Scheduler in the first 3 years. For year 2, FMS will consider only blocks mined by the Scheduler in the first 4 years, and so on.

Maximum number of benches in one activity: used to enter the maximum number of benches in one activity.

Timeout for Solver at any given period: used to set a time limit to search for the optimal solution. For example, if the “Timeout…” is set to 40 minutes, and the computation time reaches the limit before finding the optimal solution, the Solver stops and returns the best feasible solution found within that time frame for the period. If no feasible solution is found within 40 minutes for a period, the Solver returns no solution for this period and the FMS process stops.

It is recommended to set the Timeout option to a sufficiently high value (at least 30 minutes)

Search Options

Continue search until solution maximizing the profits is found: when this option is selected for each period FMS will report the optimal solution or the best feasible solution found within the defined time limit.

For example if the “Timeout” option is set to 40 minutes and “Continue search…” option is selected, at each period the Solver will spend at most 40 minutes looking for the optimal solution; if it finds it earlier, it will return the optimal solution; if it does not, it will return the best solution found so far.

Terminate search when a solution meeting all targets is found: if this option is selected, at each period, the Solver returns the first feasible solution.
