Environment Effect - Lighting

Lighting up your virtual world

Lighting

Any number of light sources can be defined in the world view, including ambient, directional, point and spot light sources. The color, position, intensity and direction of the light source - depending on its type - can also be varied. Light sources may be atmospheric (like the sun), or may be attached to stationary and mobile objects (like buildings, trucks and equipment).

To change a light source

  1. Using the Format ribbon, select the Environment command. Changes made to the light settings in the Environmental Settings dialog are reflected simultaneously in the world view.

  2. Turn on and off the Ambient Light or change the intensity with the slider. Ambient light is non-directional - changing the intensity will increase or decrease the brightness of all object surfaces regardless of their orientation.

  3. Turn on and off the Directional Light, change the intensity with the slider, or change the light source position with the Azimuth and Latitude dials.

The Azimuth of the Directional Light corresponds to the time of day - 0º for midday and 90º for sunset or dawn.

The Latitude of the Directional Light corresponds to the equatorial latitude - 0º for tropical and 90º for arctic.

Negative Azimuth and Latitude settings are used for back lighting effects.
