Creating elevation and grade-based contours from input point data |
Contours from Points - Introduction
To access this dialog:
This command is used to generate elevation- and grade-based contours, using either points or string data as inputs (and fault strings, if present).
You can pre-select your data to generate contours around a subset of the input data object, and you can do this whilst the Generate Contours dialog is on display if you wish. This applies to any of the input data types (points, fault strings or clipping polygons).

This function will default to overwriting the current object (string, model or wireframe) when it outputs data. You can create your own objects as part of this procedure, or you can choose to create the output objects manually first (using the Current Object toolbar) then select them on the Output Data screen. It's up to you. |
This command features:
- Choice of different interpolation algorithms
- Anisotropy
- Data smoothing
- Region clipping
- Faulted data
- Smooth contour lines
- Gridded data output
- Surfacing
For distance contouring functionality (to create contours representing the proximity of a surface grid point to a sample), see Distance Contours - Introduction
Using the Generate Contours Wizards
Contours can be generated for the following scenarios:
-
Contours based on loaded point data
-
Contours based on loaded drillhole data
-
Distance contours
The dialog used for each method is similar, although data specification is slightly different for each.
Regardless of the method you use, you can access Back and Next buttons to move to a later/earlier stage, and you can use the Restore button to recall the values used during the last run of the contouring command.
Examples and Procedures
The following general procedures are available to help you become familiar with the generate-contours-from-points command:
- Generate-contours-from-points: Grade Contours (procedure)
- Generate-contours-from-points: Elevation Contours (procedure)
