Create a Drive Solid

Generate a closed wireframe surface or surfaces based on input desurveyed development strings.

Activity Steps

  1. Load or import surveyed string data representing underground developments.
  2. Open the Drive Solid from Survey Data screen.
  3. If required, filter your data (for example, by using the Quick Filter control bar.
  4. If required, preselect strings from which to generate a solid.

    Note: if no string data is selected, all string data will be used to generate a solid.

  5. To select string data for surfacing, you can either:
    • Select an existing string object from the Input Survey Data list, or;
    • Use the pick button to select any loaded string data. This is not recommended if you have preselected string data for surfacing (in this case, just pick the data object from the list. or;
    • Browse for a string data file to load and automatically select for solids generation.
  6. To choose how data is generated:
    1. Select Current object to output wireframe data in the current wireframe object. This can be useful if you wish to combine the results of several string surfacing activities into the same output wireframe. If no current object exists, one will be created.
    2. Select New object, and specify an object name, to generate a new data object containing drive solid data. If an object of the same name exists in memory, a unique numeric suffix will be applied.
  7. To control how hole detection is performed, use Hole threshold (%). Higher values tend to produce more internal voids in output surface data. See Hole Detection.
  8. To automatically remove data fragments that are below a certain volume, enter a value into the Remove solids with volume below field. For example, if world units represent cubic meters and you want to ignore any volume (possibly caused by data noise or surveying error) that is less than 5 cubic meters volume, enter the value "5".
  9. You can also (and independently) ignore volumes that have a true thickness below a specified 2D distance, using the Trim solids with thickness below field.

    Note: By default, both data removal options above are set to zero, meaning no trimming or removal of data occurs.

  10. Click Generate to create a solid drive wireframe and display volume calculation results for all successfully generated drive solids.

    Note: If a solid volume can't be created for any reason, the drive number in question is displayed in an output error message, however, all other possible volumes are created.
