Configure Variogram Update Properties

The Update tab provides options for configuring variogram models.

Important: Changing the update properties on the variogram component affects all variograms beneath this level, including all directional variograms.

Activity Steps

  1. Select the variogram component from the Project Tree.
  2. Select the Update tab in the Property Panel.
  3. Configure the following options as required.
    • Update – Apply any changes made in the Update tab to the variogram.
    • Roll Back – Roll back any changes made in the Update tab since the last update.
    • Transform field group:
      • Transform – Apply a data transformation to your variogram. Select from None, Log and Normal Scores.
      • Despike – Whether to calculate the local mean of all samples in a maximum distance from the sample to be despiked. This local mean then is used to replace the sample in your dataset and eliminate spikes. See Despike Data. Only available when a Normal Scores transformation has been applied.
      • Max Dist – Maximum distance from sample to apply despike. Default: 10. Only available when a Normal Scores transformation has been applied.
    • Separation field group:
      • Auto – Whether to set the Separation to half the total separation distance of the dataset.
      • Separation – Restrict the range of separation distances used in calculating the variogram. This can be used to spread the variogram over a more appropriate range.

Note: Restricting the separation distance can be much faster and uses considerably less computer processing power.

      • Granularity – Intervals at which lags are calculated and can be set. For example, with the default lag granularity of 5, lags can be set at 5, 10, 15, 20 and so on. Reducing the granularity increases the detail but also increases computer processing requirements.
    • Bandwidths and Angular Tolerances field groups (see Setting the Effective Search Area for Variography):
      • In-plane – Area searched within the plane of the variogram.
      • Off-plane – Area searched on the off-plane of the variogram.
      • As In – Whether to set Off-plane to be the same as In-plane.
    • Maximum Continuity Angles field group:
      • Horizontal – Angle in degrees of the maximum continuity in the horizontal plane. Read-only.
      • Across-Strike – Angle in degrees of the maximum continuity in the across-strike plane. Read-only.
      • Dip Plane – Angle in degrees of the maximum continuity in the dip plane. Read-only.
    • Run auto-fit on update – Whether to apply the auto-fit algorithm to each of the variograms.
