Add a Sample After a Batch is Loaded
This activity describes how to add samples to a batch in AssayNet LIMS after it is loaded. It covers the steps for including samples in an existing series or a non-routine sample batch. This process is useful for cases where additional samples need to be added to an existing series or when samples were accidentally missed during the loading of a non-routine batch.

To add samples to an existing series, see Load a Series for Modifications.
Important: If the additional samples are part of an existing series and need to be saved, you must load the series using the activity reference provided in Step 1. This ensures that when the series is modified to include the new samples, any custom fields (sample modifiers) added to the sample are not saved as part of the sample ID.
Note: If adding samples to the batch that are not part of a series (non-routine samples), proceed to step 2.

In the Sample Batches page, locate and select the batch to which to add the additional samples.

Click Working View.
The batch is isolated.

On the menu, click Setup.
The Samples screen displays.

In the Samples list on the left, locate and select an existing sample with similar characteristics as the new sample. The Samples list is the default tab when the Samples screen displays.

Click the Clone Sample icon (two small rectangles arranged diagonally).
The cloned sample is added to the list below the existing sample.

To modify the cloned sample:

Double-click the cloned sample.
The Edit Sample screen displays.

Update the following fields as required:
- Sample ID

Sample Date
-
Time
-
Sample Type
-
Prep Code
-
Status
-
Sample Location
-
Client QC Sample
-
QC Sample
-
Shift
-
Report Date
-
Storage Location
-
Select whether to Use Containers for the new sample. If checked, the Storage Containers drop-down displays.

Select the Storage Container.

To add a comment:

In the Comments window, click New.
The Add Comment screen displays.

Update the Comment Date if required. Defaults to the current date.

Update the Time if required. Defaults to the current time.

Enter a Comment.
- To create multiple comments from the same screen:
Press Ctrl+N.
The previous data entries are temporarily saved.
- Update the fields as required.
- Click OK.

- Click OK.

To add additional packages to the cloned sample:
Note: The new sample is assigned the same packages as the sample it was cloned from.

Click Setup » Packages.
The Sample Packages screen displays.

Select the Sample ID and click Edit.
The list of Available Packages and Selected Packages displays.

Select a package from the Available Packages list.

Click the Add (left arrow) icon to add the package to the Selected Packages list.

Repeat steps c-d to add additional packages.

Click OK.

Click Close.

To add the cloned sample to the preparation sheet:

Select the cloned sample.

Select the row in the preparation sheet (table to the right), after which the new sample will be inserted.

Click the Add Item (left arrow) icon to add the sample to the preparation sheet.

Click OK.
