Receive samples with Sample Login

Use the Sample Login workspace to receive samples at the laboratory and create the sample batch. The receiving bench is not tied to a workstation, because the device is carried to the samples.

Sample Login checks every scan against AssayNet LIMS as the scan happens, so the device must have a network connection throughout this activity.

Activity steps:

  1. Sign in and open the Sample Login workspace. See Sign in to AssayNet Mobile.

  2. To capture a weight for each sample as it is scanned, see Capture sample weights.

  3. Scan the first sample.

On a rugged device, press the scan button. On a phone or tablet, tap Scan to use the camera.

The sample is added to the list. AssayNet LIMS identifies the client, project, sample type, and prep code from the barcode prefix or from the submittal that holds the sample, and applies them to the batch.

Note: A barcode with no defined prefix, and no matching sample in a submittal, is reported as an undefined barcode. Configure the prefix in AssayNet LIMS, or enter the sample by hand.

  4. Scan the rest of the samples.

Note: A sample identifier that is already in use is reported as a duplicate. The application offers to relabel the sample with a prefix so that the scan can continue.

  5. To enter a sample by hand; for example, when the tag is damaged:

    1. Tap Insert.

The Enter sample ID screen displays.

    2. Enter the Sample ID.

    3. Tap OK.

  6. To change a sample, tap it in the list.

The Edit Sample screen displays with the Packages and NCS Codes tabs.

    1. Change the Sample ID if required.

    2. On the Packages tab, select the packages for the sample.

The packages set against the project are already applied. Select additional packages if required.

    3. On the NCS Codes tab, select the Non-Conformance Sample (NCS) codes for the sample.

    4. Tap OK.

To remove the sample instead, tap Delete and confirm.

  7. Tap Batch.

The Batch Details screen displays the Batch Name, Project, Client, No. Samples, Submitted By, Sample Type, and Prep Code.

  8. Change the Batch Name if required.

The name is set for you. It is the project name when barcode prefixes identified the samples, and the submittal name when the samples belong to a submittal.

  9. Tap OK.

  10. Tap Submit.

The application asks you to confirm the batch name and the number of samples.

  11. Tap YES.

The message Sample batch created confirms that the batch exists in AssayNet LIMS, where the samples continue through laboratory processing.
