Uploading a Sample Run List to an Instrument
Overview
The capturing of instrument data often requires the uploading of a sample run list to an instrument.
Process
Depending on what the instrument needs, this involves generating the file containing the sample run list as a job report, and uploading that file to the instrument.
Generating the Sample Run List Document
The file is generated either as a grid report or a job report.
Grid Reports
Samples can be returned for specific tests using the search ability in the CCBTCH—Batch application.
The first stage in this process is to return sample counts for schemes or analytes, based upon entered criteria. A report can be generated for the returned sample counts.
Once sample counts are returned, then the second stage in this process is to return samples for selected schemes and analytes, also based on the entered criteria, such that, the grid is populated from a sample search using sample and scheme-based criteria. A report can be generated for the returned samples.
Once samples are returned, then a grid report can be generated.
Refer to Batching Samples for Analysis for returning sample counts for schemes or analytes or searching for samples that have a combination of registered schemes or analytes, and Generating Grid Reports.
Job Reports
A report request refers to a group of sample-scheme-analyte combinations that need to be reported together.
Report requests are classified by report type:
- Certificate—Certified reports of job results, the final product of the laboratory service.
- Analysis—Used to generate instrument upload run lists.
- Paperwork—Job paperwork, including summary sheets, worksheets, prep sheets, job sheets and internal reports.
- Labels—Job and sample labels.
In the case of generating a sample run list, the report type is analysis.
Report requests for certificate reports are created using the CCRPTR—Report Request application. Refer to Maintaining Report Requests and Generating Reports from a Report Request.
Use a report request as a template to generate instrument run lists
A report request can be flagged as a template and associated with an instrument by selecting Is Template and linking it to an Instrument Code, respectively. This allows it to be located in a search and used as a template to generate instrument run lists.
When creating a report request from a template report request, the report request's Name can be either entered by the user as the Target Report Request Name or generated from a Target Report Request Name Syntax, where the syntax has a Syntax Type of Job Name.
The reports, jobs, samples, schemes, scheme analytes, sample schemes and sample scheme analytes from the source report request are created in the target report request, and the target report request is set as a template if specified.
Uploading the Sample Run List to the Instrument
A script is authored to perform the necessary logic to communicate with the instrument and upload the instrument sample run list file, and then the script is uploaded to CCLAS using the CCSCRT—Script application, and run at the necessary point in the analysis.
