Ignore a Composite QC Failure on Sample Scheme Analyte Results

Use this activity to ignore a composite QC failure on sample scheme analyte results.

Activity Steps

  1. Access the CCVALN—Update Job and Sample Validation application from the main menu or quick launch to display the CCVALN—Update Job and Sample Validation screen.
  2. Enter the relevant search criteria on the Primary Criteria tab and/or the Scoped Criteria tab and click Search Samples.

Samples that match the criteria display in the upper Sample grid. Note that the Sample grid cannot be updated directly.

  3. Select a sample row in the upper Samples grid, for a sample that is validated.

Sample scheme analyte results associated with the sample display in the lower Analytes grid.

  4. On the lower Analytes grid, select the rows where the Composite QC Status is FLR (Failure) for each sample scheme analyte result that is to have its composite QC failure ignored.
  5. Click Ignore QC.

The QC Ignore Reason dialog box displays.

  6. Enter a Status Change Reason.
  7. Click OK.

If the QC_IGNORE_REASON_MANDATORY application preference is defined and selected, when you attempt to ignore a composite QC failure, then you must enter a reason why for the ignore action to proceed. If the preference is not defined, or is defined and is not checked, when you attempt to ignore a composite QC failure, then you do not have to enter a reason why for the ignore action to proceed.

If the sample scheme analyte's Composite QC Status is Failure, and the ALLOW_IGNORE_QC_FAILURES application preference is checked, then the sample scheme analyte's Composite QC Status is set to Ignore Failure.

Note: A sample scheme analyte with a Workflow Status of Analysed and a Composite QC Status of Failure can be released to set the sample scheme analyte's Workflow Status to Released. However, a sample scheme analyte with a Composite QC Status of Failure cannot be validated to set the sample scheme analyte's Workflow Status to Completed unless the failure is dealt with, for example, by re-analysing to get an acceptable result or by ignoring the QC failure.

If the sample scheme analyte's Auto Validate is selected, the sample is a laboratory batch sample, and the LAB_BATCH_MANUAL_VALIDATE_RESULTS application preference is defined and is cleared, and the sample scheme analyte's Workflow Status is Released, then the cascade engine sets the Workflow Status to Completed.

The system returns a message to indicate the outcome of the action:
    • Where all selected sample scheme analytes have composite QC failures ignored: "Action completed successfully."
    • Where only some of the selected sample analytes have composite QC failures ignored: "Action partially completed successfully."
    • Where a selected sample scheme analyte fails to have a composite QC failure ignored: "Sample [<Sample_Name>] Scheme [<Scheme_Code>] Analyte {<Analyte_Code>] cannot be ignored."
    • Where no selected sample scheme analytes have composite QC failures ignored: "No changes have been made."
