Maintaining Organisations
Overview
An organisation is a division of the company that uses the LIMS instance and groups the laboratories within it.
The main reason of having separate organisations on one instance is to:
- Provide for the working organisation, and to provide an organisation for centralised governance reference data for distributing your LIMS system globally.
- Align the laboratories within legal divisions, for example, LIMS Australia and LIMS New Zealand, thereby allowing one legal division to share one set of organisation-scoped entities among their laboratories but not with laboratories under other organisations.
Process
Organisations are created and maintained using the CCORGN—Organisation application.
Organisations returned from a search can be exported to a report. Refer to Generating Grid Reports. Available report templates are defined in the SEARCH_REPORT_CCORGN application preference.
Organisations are created at instance-level. An instance can contain multiple organisations.
When an organisation is created, the following entities are automatically created for it:
- Category types and their categories, and application preferences are copied from organisation that has a Code of DEFAULT_ORG.
- Syntaxes are inserted from a default set of syntaxes.
A document file can be attached to an organisation to provide additional details for the organisation.
A logo image file can be attached to an organisation for use in reports.
One or more addresses can be set up for an organisation. The Is Default column indicates which address is the default address for the organisation, for use in reports.
The organisation's Organisation Code cannot be updated.
An organisation can be saved as another organisation. Where the default organisation, DEFAULT_ORG, exists, then the following entities are copied into the new organisation:
-
Category types
-
Categories
-
Preferences.
and a default set of syntaxes (8 of them) are created for the use in creating various codes and numbers, for example, for job code, sample code, report request code and invoice number.
Organisations can only be deleted where:
-
No jobs link to the organisation
-
All entities, including syntaxes are deleted first
To access the syntaxes and delete them, a laboratory has to be created within that organisation to that a user with access to that laboratory can log in and delete those organisation-scope syntaxes.
Impact
Laboratories are created and linked to an organisation.
Entities within the testing environment can be created with org-scope or lab-scope. Lab-scope entities can link to org-scope or lab-scope entities. Org-scope entities can only be linked from org-scope entities.
