System Processes that follow Result Entry

Overview

After a result is entered in a workbook session, the system performs various assessments based on the primary or secondary analytical type of sample and the type of result to set specification, QC and workflow status for sample scheme analytes.

Process

Weight or Volume Results

After a result is entered or cleared for a sample scheme analyte in a workbook session opened in weight/volume mode, the following system process occurs:

  1. Assessment of whether the weight or volume is within tolerance limits for the scheme and type of sample. Refer to entering a value in raw results mode when Entering Results into Workbook Cells.

Raw or Final Results

After a result is entered or cleared for a sample scheme analyte in a workbook session opened in raw results mode or final results mode, the following system processes occur:

  • Analytical assessments

  • Update to QC history

  • Composite status evaluations

  • Workflow cascade

  • Redisplay of workbook cells with locking rules applied.

Analytical Assessments

Depending on a sample's Primary Analytical Type and Secondary Analytical Type, its results undergo various analytical assessments to set statuses pertaining to quality and workflow.

Type of sample Primary Analytical Type Secondary Analytical Type Internal Detection Limit Assessment, to set SSA's Detection Limit Status Surrogate Limit Assessment if configured, else Scheme Limit Assessment, to set SSA's Scheme Limit Status Accuracy Assessment, to set SSA's Standard Status Precision Assessment, to set SSA's Precision Status Specification Assessment, to set SSASpec's Specification Status Rollup to set SSA's Composite Spec Status Primary Specification assessment to set SSA's Specification Status Rollup to set SSA's Composite QC Status

Analytical assessments are done upon sample scheme analyte results in the following sequence:

  1. Detection limit assessment, to set the sample scheme analyte's Detection Limit Status and Workflow Status. Refer to Assessing Results against Detection Limits. Detection limit assessment occurs first as it impacts and can impede the sample scheme analyte's Workflow Status being set to Analysed, and QC and specification assessments occur after that as the QC assessment impacts and can impede Workflow Status being set to Completed.
  2. Scheme or surrogate limit assessment to set the sample scheme analyte's Limit Status. Refer to Assessing Results against Scheme or Surrogate Limits.
  3. Accuracy assessment to set the sample scheme analyte's Standard Status. Refer to Assessing Results against Accuracy Limits.
  4. Precision assessment to set the sample scheme analyte's Precision Status. Refer to Assessing Results against Precision Limits.
  5. Specification assessments to set the sample scheme analyte specification's Specification Status, then primary specification assessment to set the sample scheme analyte's Specification Status. Refer to Assessing Results against Product and Specification Limits.

The sequence is really only important when considering the various scripts that can be run during the individual QC assessments. These scripts are able to :

  • Update any QC status based upon some custom logic.
  • Update QC history or any other historical QC database.
  • Send messages with message services regarding the assessment outcomes.

Update to QC History

If a scheme version analyte is active for QC history, then each accuracy assessment and precision assessment has its outcome written to QC history.

Composite QC Status Evaluations

The following composite status evaluations are done by the cascade engine:

  • All individual specification assessments are rolled into the sample scheme analyte's Composite Specification Status .
  • The sample scheme analyte's Limit Status, Standard Status, Precision Status and Specification Status are rolled into the sample scheme analyte's Composite QC Status. (Detection limit assessment is applied independently of QC assessment.)
  • Sample scheme Composite Specification Status and Composite QC Status are determined from each related sample scheme analyte's Composite Specification Status and Composite QC Status, respectively.
  • Sample Composite Specification Status and Composite QC Status are determined from each related sample scheme's Composite Specification Status and Composite QC Status, respectively.
  • Job Composite Specification Status and Composite QC Status are determined from each related sample's Composite Specification Status and Composite QC Status, respectively.
  • Job scheme analyte Composite Specification Status and Composite QC Status are determined from each related sample scheme analyte's Composite Specification Status and Composite QC Status, respectively.
  • Job scheme Composite Specification Status and Composite QC Status are determined from each related sample scheme's Composite Specification Status and Composite QC Status, respectively.

When a result is received, various QC assessments and cascades occur to set the SSA's Composite Specification Status and Composite QC Status:

Workflow Status Cascade

Redisplay of Workbook Cells with Locking Rules Applied

Workbook cells can be locked based upon a sample scheme analyte's Workflow Status, and are highlighted based upon a sample scheme analyte's Composite QC Status, and upon a sample scheme analyte's Specification Status or Composite Specification Status (toggle mode).

After a result in a workbook cell undergoes assessment and evaluation of a sample scheme analyte's Detection Limit Status, Composite QC Status (comprising Scheme Limit Status, Precision Status, Standard Status, Specification Status), Composite Specification Status, and Workflow Status, the cell may be redisplayed as locked or highlighted to indicate the various statuses. Refer to Workbook Cell Locks and and Unlocking Workbook Cells.

In workbook, when a result is assessed to have a Workflow Status of Check, the cell is highlighted for you to see that some action is required. This action may be to reread the sample to get another result, request a repeat of the sample scheme analyte using a newly prepared sample portion, ignore the critical detection limit failure, or to activate an upper scheme.

What's Next

After the system has performed assessments, and specification, QC and workflow status is set for sample scheme analytes, the operator has access to various functions to allow the results to become released and validated.
