Import a Drill Pattern

You can import drill patterns from a .csv file (see File Formats) that has data for each hole on a single row.

The minimum data to define each hole is:

  • The hole name
  • The X, Y and Z coordinates of the hole collar
  • Either the X, Y and Z coordinates of the hole toe (preferred) or else the bearing, dip and length of the hole

The .csv file may include other data about each hole. During the import process, you can select which columns to import.

The .csv file may include rows with other information about the drill pattern; however, this other data is not imported.

Activity Steps

  1. Select the Design module.
  2. Right-click a node in the DataBlast Items Tree and select Import Drill Pattern from the menu.

The Hole Pattern Import screen displays.

  3. Select the Data File:
    1. Click the ellipsis (...).
    2. Browse for and select the .csv file.
    3. Click OK.
  4. Update the Hole Pattern Name if required. Pattern names cannot be reused. Default: The name of the .csv file.
  5. Update the Mine Block if required. Default: The mine block, or parent mine block of the object, that was right-clicked in the DataBlast Items Tree.
  6. Update the Drill Pattern Type if required. Select from the active drill pattern types configured in site maintenance. The drill pattern type determines tolerances and the templates for entering drill log, dip and backfill data. See Maintain Drill Pattern Types.
  7. Select a Saved Import Template if required from templates saved from earlier drill pattern imports.
  8. Click Next.

The data from the .csv file displays.

  9. Update the following parameters as required.
    • Field Delimiter—Select from Comma, Tab, Semicolon and Space; or enter a character for Other.
    • Decimal Separator—Select from Period and Comma; or enter a character for Other.
    • Thousands Separator—Select from None, Period and Comma; or enter a character for Other.
    • Zero Angle Style—For example, if you select the third radio button clockwise, hole angles are measured from the horizontal plane; that is, a vertical hole measured downwards is 90°. Default: As specified for the mine site. See Basic Mine Site Settings.
  10. For each column in the table, right-click the column header area and select the data type from:
    • Collar Easting (X)
    • Collar Northing (Y)
    • Collar RL (Z)
    • Drill Toe Easting (X)
    • Drill Toe Northing (Y)
    • Drill Toe RL (Z)
    • Hole Depth
    • Diameter
    • Angle
    • Bearing
    • Hole ID
    • Charge Depth

Note: By default, columns for Hole ID, Collar Easting (X), Collar Northing (Y), Collar RL (Z), Bearing, Dip and Hole Depth are preselected. Columns without a selected data type will not be imported. Ensure that columns for the minimum data (described above) are selected.

  11. Click Next.
  12. Update the following parameters as required.
    • Unit of Measure for Depths and X/Y/Z Positions—Select from Millimetres, Centimetres, Metres, Kilometres, Feet and Inches.
    • Unit of Measure for Hole Diameters—Select from Millimetres, Centimetres, Metres, Kilometres, Feet and Inches.
    • Default Hole Diameter—Select from the allowed drill diameters configured in mine site settings. See Configure Mine Site Settings. Default: As specified for the mine site. See Hole Import and Export Settings.
  13. Click Next.
  14. Select the Hole Icon Type from:
    • Default
    • Selected Icon—Select a Default Icon Type.
    • Based on Angle/Dip of Hole
  15. If Hole Icon Type is Based on Angle/Dip of Hole, complete as many rows as required in the Icon Type Angle Ranges table:
    1. Enter a Range Start and Range End.
    2. Select an Icon Type.
  16. Click Next.

The rows to be imported are highlighted in green. Any rows highlighted in pink will not be imported.

  17. Click Next.

The holes display as a grid pattern.

  18. To save the settings as an import template:
    1. Click Save Template.

      The Template screen displays.

    2. Enter a Name.
    3. Click OK.

Note: You can maintain these templates in Site Maintenance. See Maintain Pattern Import Templates.

  19. Click Save to Database.
