Combine Multiple Tasks

You can combine two or more tasks into a single task.

When you combine tasks, you can choose to set any task property to a value for the new combined, task. For example, you could change the description used for the combined task, or change the task type. By default, the values of the first selected column are set to be inherited by the combined task, however, you may want to change this.

For example, when tasks are combined, you can choose either to set a unified rate or duration, not both, for a Fixed Rated Task Type. In this situation:

  • You can select a Duration value from any of the selected tasks (which is applied to the combined task), or;

  • You can pick a Rate value from any task, in which case the Duration of the combined task is the sum of all durations.

Where a Fixed Duration Task Type is selected, the rate of the first task is used and the Duration is always set to the sum of all durations.

Other settings are also prepared automatically for other task types, for example, if the combined task type is Cyclical, the rate is also based on the first selected task, and the duration calculated automatically. For a Calculated Rate or Calculated Duration type, the same is true.

    In some cases, you can choose which of the tasks is used to form the combined task property (such as Description, Name and any production field values, for example).

    Some values can't be edited if certain Task Types are selected (see above).

  4. If you want to display the Task Information screen after combining the tasks, check Open task information form after combining.

  5. Click OK.

    The selected tasks are combined and the schedule view updates automatically.
