Geofencing

The Geofence tool alerts you when you enter or exit a defined region. Geofences are useful to ensure you stay in or out of a defined area.

To modify the geofence polygon styles, see Polygon Data.

Note: The Geofence tool uses a predefined layer called 'GEOFENCE_CLIPPED', which is automatically created on new projects with a predefined structure. The geofence layer can only contain polygons, which can be either drawn on the desktop or mobile device or copied from an existing polygon layer.

To activate a geofence:

  1. On the Toolbar, tap the Current Location icon. GPS icon
  2. To activate a geofence, tap the Geofence tool. Geofence icon
  3. Select the layer that contains the geofence polygons and make it visible.
  4. Select the required geofence polygons.
  5. Tap Activate.

Note: When a geofence is active, the geofence icon turns orange.

The Current Location marker indicates your position relative to the geofence polygons. Current location indicator

If you enter or exit a geofence polygon, the mobile app displays an alert.

Note: You can toggle geofence alerts in the project settings. See Configure Project Settings.

To add a geofence buffer:

You can manually set a buffer around a geofence polygon. The buffer edge is used as the zone for geofencing instead of the original polygon boundary. Therefore, when you enter the buffer zone, the mobile app displays an alert.

  1. On the Toolbar, tap the Current Location icon. GPS icon
  2. Select the required activated geofence layer.
  3. Tap the pencil icon. Edit icon
  4. Tap the required geofence polygon.
  5. Enter the Buffer distance.

Note: Measurement units for distance are configured in the project settings. See Configure Project Settings.

  6. Tap Save.

To copy a polygon to create a geofence:

  1. On the Toolbar, tap the Current Location icon. GPS icon
  2. Select the layer that contains the polygon you want to copy.
  3. Tap the pencil icon. Edit icon
  4. Select the required polygon.
  5. Tap Copy.

The prompt The selected polygon will be copied to the following geofence layer displays.

  6. Tap OK.

The polygon is in the GEOFENCE_CLIPPED layer.
