Define Waste Pillars (Prism Framework)

This section of the Shapes screen can be used to define how much separation is enforced between stopes in a Prism framework.

The aim is to enforce minimum separation distances between stopes, ensuring stable waste pillars are maintained.

Note: These settings can be used to fine-tune the optimization of this framework type, and are all optional.

In Prism optimisation, stopes are selected from a pool of candidates. Without separation rules, overlapping or unstable designs could be chosen.

You would typically adjust these settings when:

  • Designing for geotechnical stability.

  • Enforcing mine design rules.

  • Preventing over-extraction.

Activity steps:

  1. Display the Shapes screen.

Note: The activity outlined below is specific to the Prism framework type. Other framework types present a different screen.

  2. Check Use Waste Pillar Separation.

  3. Enter minimum separation distances for U, V and W axes.

Note: U, V and W are the local coordinate directions of the stope framework.

  4. Save your settings.
