Release Packages from a Package Group

This activity releases packages from a package group but does not delete the package group.

If the package group has child package groups, this activity releases the child package groups from the parent package group, but does not release the packages from the child package group. That is, the releasing is only one level down in the hierarchy of nested package groups and their packages.

This activity is like unpacking a package group. See Unpack a Discrete Unit Package Group. Releasing is preferable if all packages and package groups need to be released at the same time.

Packages are also released if a discrete unit package group is rejected.

Security Note: You need the Allow package group maintenance security right in the Supply Chain user group security rights group for this activity.

Activity Steps

  1. Open the Package Group Explorer, Discrete Unit Location, Rail Siding, Truck Location, Barge Terminal or Port Location.
  2. Find the package group. See Find Package Groups.
  3. Right-click the package group and select Release Packages from the menu.

    The Package Release screen displays.

  4. Select the Release Date.

Note: The release date must be after the applicable date of the latest activity of the package group.

  5. Click Release.
  6. To undo the unpacking:
    1. Open the Package Group (DU).
    2. Right-click the unpacking activity in the Activity table and select Repack from the menu.

Note: This option to repack the packages only displays if the unpacking is the most recent activity for the package group and its packages. If packages need to be repacked later, see Repack Packages.

  7. Click Save.
