Create an Analysis Set

The first step in discontinuity analysis is to group the discontinuities together into analysis sets.

Tip: You may want to group these analysis sets as sets of discontinuities that have attributes such as those with similar orientation, persistence or those that are geographically located on the same bench. You can Create a Filtered Analysis Set to extract the exact data you want into separate analysis sets.

Activity Steps

  1. Open the Analysis menu.
  2. Select Create Analysis Set in the Analysis menu group.

The Create Analysis Set window displays. This window shows all of the mapped discontinuities in the parent set. If you have added your own schema, this data displays as columns on the right of the table.

Note: Alternatively, you can right-click Analysis in the Project Tree and select Create Analysis Set from the menu.

  3. Click Create to create an analysis set of all the discontinuities you mapped in the Mapping stage.

Note: You cannot edit any data in the Create Analysis Set window. If you need to edit data, delete any created analysis sets and edit the data directly, then recreate your analysis sets.

A new Analysis Set folder is created in the Project Tree. By default, it contains three sub-folders:

    1. Filtered Set 1 – The filtered dataset you just created.
    2. Orientation Sets – Orientation sets created from this filtered dataset.
    3. Kinematic Sets – Kinematic sets generated from the slope stability analysis tool.
