Export Map Data to External Files

To access this screen:

  • Activate the Map ribbon and select Data | Export.

  • Run the command export-maps-to-files using the Command toolbar.

The Export map data to external files tool is used to:

  • export data for any map/area combination to external files for use in other systems. Find out more below.
  • export channel sample data to a Datamine Fusion database. See Export Data to Fusion.

Data for a given mine/area and data range will be combined into single files of the same data type. For example, all features information will be stored in a file with the same name as the feature object (as defined by your external XML configuration file). Other data type files are named accordingly, for example, sketches are stored in a "sketches.dm" string file and comments in a "comments.dm" points file.

Data from any mine and area (or all mines or areas) can be exported, and you can filter the outgoing data by map data type. For example, if you only want to export features data (say, to use contact strings as an input to vein modelling) you can.

If exporting channel sample data, you can optionally create independent .csv and Datamine (.dm) files representing the collars, surveys and assays for samples within a given mine and area.

Note: In Studio RM, you can import Studio Mapper database contents directly, without the need for export, using a dialog very similar to this one.

By default, the currently selected Mine/Area's map properties will be exported.

You can also restrict your export package to include only data from maps created between any two dates.

Once export options have been selected above, enable Folder and pick an output location. This data can be exported anywhere accessible to the host PC's operating system.

Notes:

Each time a map is created, a time stamp is added to the corresponding file. It is this date that is used to determine if map data is included in an export. Exporting will include unsaved data objects (i.e. data that currently only exists in Studio Mapper, not on disk). Data will be automatically saved to a physical file if it belongs to a map that qualifies for export.

Channel sample data can also be exported directly to a Fusion database. Other data types cannot be exported in this way. See Export Data to Fusion.

To export map data as one or more Datamine files:

  1. Load or create a Studio Mapper project.

  2. Use the Mapping Task Bar to create or edit a map. See Getting Started.

  3. Open the Export map data to external files dialog.

  4. Select the Mine and Area that represents the data you wish to export, or choose All Mines (the entire database) or All Areas of the selected mine.

  5. Choose the data type to export:
    • Properties - Map summary properties including mine and area location, map dimensions and any assigned attributes. See Map Properties Panel.
    • Features - geological structures captured as either open strings or polygons, with optional attribution. See Map Features Panel.
    • Sketches - string data as freeform sketches. See Add Map Sketches.
    • Comments - annotated point data used for labelling the 3D map view. See Map Comments.
    • Channel Samples - logged channel sample and associated interval data. See Channel Samples.
      • Collars, Surveys and Assays - create additional .csv and .dm format files containing categorized channel sample data.
    • Pictures - export image data as a wireframe data file. See Add and Edit Face Images.
    • Stratigraphic Sections - export longwall section sample data. See Create Stratigraphic Sections

Options are active if at least one object of a type can be found in the map collection of the selected mine/area. Otherwise, options are inactive.

  6. Choose the date range for your export. Data Between the first data and the second (inclusive) data will be exported. Data export scope is based on the time stamp applied to the map when it was originally created (it doesn't matter when it was last modified).

Note: The default settings are to include data from maps created within the past week.

  7. Select a Folder to store the exported data archive (the default setting is your current project folder).

  8. Select Export.

Map data will be exported to the selected Folder.

Note: If maps to be exported are found without a time/date of creation property (this is possible if maps were created in legacy versions of Studio Mapper) you will be shown the Maps missing dates dialog during export. Select the maps to be exported from the provided list and click OK.
