AssayNet Mobile

AssayNet Mobile is the Android application for AssayNet LIMS. It is used by field and laboratory staff who register, receive, and track samples away from a desktop LIMS workstation.

The application replaces paper logs and handwritten labels. Samples are scanned where they are collected, and the data reaches AssayNet LIMS without being typed a second time.

Workspaces

One sign-in gives access to two workspaces. Both workspaces share the same session and the same connection settings, and each keeps its own data on the device.

Sample Tracking

Load client submittals from AssayNet LIMS, scan each sample as it is collected, record sample details and location in the field, and send the changes back to AssayNet LIMS. This workspace runs without a network connection.

Sample Login

Receive samples at the laboratory. Scan each sample, set the batch details, assign packages and Non-Conformance Sample (NCS) codes, and submit the batch to create a sample batch in AssayNet LIMS. This workspace requires a network connection.

How the work flows

The submittal starts in AssayNet LIMS, travels with the sampler, and returns with the data.

  1. A client submittal is created in AssayNet LIMS. The client, project, sample type, prep code, custom fields, and expected sample list are set at this point.

  2. The submittal is loaded onto the mobile device. See Load submittals onto the device.

  3. In the field, each sample is scanned and checked against the expected sample list. A barcode that does not belong is reported at the point of collection instead of at the laboratory.

  4. Sample details and the sample location are recorded on the device.

  5. The collected data is sent back to AssayNet LIMS in a single action when the device is back in range.

  6. At the laboratory, the same device scans the samples in and creates the sample batch. See Receive samples with Sample Login.

Scanning

The application selects the scanning method automatically. Three methods are supported.

  • The device camera, on standard phones and tablets.

  • A keyboard wedge scanner, which sends each barcode as keystrokes.

  • The integrated scanner on a Zebra rugged device, through DataWedge.

Working without a connection

Sample Tracking keeps loaded submittals and collected samples on the device. Scanning continues while the device is out of range, and the work is sent in one action when a connection returns. See Offline working.

Security

Sign-in uses your AssayNet LIMS Active Directory account. The application communicates only with the AssayNet LIMS REST application programming interface (API) over HTTPS, and never connects to SQL Server directly. The application does not receive a database connection string or database credentials.

Requirements

  • A 64-bit Android device running Android 10 or later.

  • Network access to the AssayNet LIMS REST API, for sign-in and for loading and sending data.

  • An AssayNet LIMS user account with permission for the work being performed.

To install the application on a device, see Install AssayNet Mobile.
