Adding Tests to a Sample using a Template Sample
Overview
When adding tests to production samples, template samples that are contained within a template job are located and used to add a suite of schemes and analytes to the sample. A template sample is effectively a procedure of analysis. Also, any other registered sample can be used to add tests to registered samples.
Process
Template samples are created in the CCREGN—Job application, using the options on the Samples tab.
he CCREGN—Job application can create samples from template or other registered samples.
Samples can be maintained either within the context of a job using the CCREGN—Job application or without job context using the CCSAMP—Sample application.
The scope of a template sample follows the scope of the template job in which it exists.
Creating Sample Schemes using a Template or Other Sample
Samples are searched using the CCSAMP—Search Sample screen, then one or more samples are selected and their tests then registered on the current sample group, single sample or multiple samples, depending upon the context in which the tests are being added.
When searching for samples, specify Template as All or Templates only to return a concise and relevant list of template samples from the search.
Upon selecting samples to add tests to the target sample/s:
-
The schemes and analytes from the selected samples are added as follows:
- A scheme and its analytes are not added to the target sample if the target sample already contains a different version of the source scheme.
- If the selected source samples have different versions of the same scheme, then the highest scheme version and its analytes are copied to the target sample. The analytes from any lower scheme version are not added at all.
- If the selected source samples have the same version of the same scheme but different analytes, then the analytes from both source samples are added to the target sample.
-
When a sample is created from another sample (via adding samples using a template sample to a job or Maintaining Composite Samples to create a composite sample), only some of the general fields and test are copied into the sample. For example, date, user and release information is not copied into the new sample. However, all biofields in the source sample are copied over into the new sample/s, in the order in which they exist in the source sample. Holding times of sample schemes and their analytes are automatically inherited so that expiry dates can be calculated. Possible dates and expiry dates for sample schemes and sample scheme analytes of samples with a Primary Analytical Type of Duplicate are inherited from the original sample when they are created.
-
Composite job scheme and job scheme analyte records are created or updated, as required, and the job scheme's Number of Samples and Number of Unknowns is updated.
-
The event is audited. Refer to Reviewing Operational Data Audits.

Restrictions on using Template or Other Samples to add Tests
A lab-scope template samples cannot be used for adding tests to org-scope template samples.
This activity is not available for a sample that belongs to a production job when the sample is opened in context of a laboratory batch job.
Each of the following attributes must be active for the current laboratory for the tests in the selected samples to be applied effectively:
- Schemes
- Specifications
- Products
- Clients
- Biofields.
Analytes cannot be added to a sample scheme that is linked to a more recent scheme version. This is because there may be analytes in a later scheme version that are not available in an earlier scheme version associated with the sample scheme.
