Maintaining Laboratories

Overview

This process shows you how to maintain laboratories on the CCLAS EL server.

The CCLAS EL instance supports multiple laboratories. This allows larger laboratories to have different configurations, where necessary, but still have common structures and data repositories.

A laboratory code designates an independent laboratory operation, possibly within a larger laboratory group.

Laboratory codes are unique within the group and all configuration and analytical data created under the auspices of that laboratory are available exclusively to members of that laboratory.

This process is pertinent to LIMS configuration personnel who configure CCLAS EL for use in the organisation or laboratory.

Process

Laboratories are maintained using the Setup application. You need specific rights to have visibility to this application.

Laboratories are maintained using simple SCRUD (search, create, review, update, delete) functionality under the Setup » Laboratory codes node. You need specific rights, and to be logged in to the GLOBAL laboratory using the CCLASMGR staff account, to have visibility to this node.

When a laboratory is created, the LIMS may be configured to copy the content of specific tables from the GLOBAL laboratory to the new laboratory.

The LIMS may also be configured to perform custom logic upon laboratory creation and/or laboratory deletion.

Maintain laboratories

The GLOBAL Laboratory

The GLOBAL laboratory provides a view across all laboratories that exist in the CCLAS database. The administrator of the global laboratory can access settings particular to that laboratory.

The Setup application is used to configure the GLOBAL laboratory.

Administrators of local laboratories cannot modify nor see these global settings; the administrator of a local laboratory only has access to settings within their own laboratory.

Local Laboratories

Multiple local laboratories may be created in the same CCLAS database. Each local laboratory is identified by a unique laboratory code. For all transactions, the laboratory code is part of the record that is saved, to clearly identify records for the specific laboratory.
