To access this screen:

  • Display the Pivot Options screen and click the Column Area tab.

This screen is used to configure how data appears in the field configuration section of the Pivot Table view, for example, in the view below the

Keeping in mind that the pivot table columns are effectively "buckets", into which portions of a task's properties will be accrued, the selected field's values will be used to generate these "buckets".

  • If the field is a code field - this will simply be the different code values defined for the code field.
  • If the field is a text field - all the different text values (for this specific field) will be used to define the buckets.
  • If the field is a numeric field - you can format it using a popup menu.
  • If the field is a date field - you can format it using date-specific options.

Activity steps:

  1. Display the Column Area tab.

  2. In the table, select a Field to add a production field to the column structure.

Add the fields in the order you want them to appear. The order controls the column grouping sequence in the pivot table.

  3. For a numeric field, click Format to set how values are displayed in the pivot table.

    • Select a preset format if you need a standard display, for example, use <Default> to display the value in the most obvious format, such as a currency value for cost fields, and so on.

    • Set the number of decimal places if you need to control numeric precision.

    • Enter a value in Custom Format Text if you need a specific format.

      • Use N0, N1, N2 and similar values to show a number with 0, 1, 2 or more decimal places.

      • Use C0, C1, C2 and similar values to show a currency symbol with the selected number of decimal places.

      • Use E in the custom format if you need exponential notation.

      • Use P with a number, for example P3, if you need percentage display with a fixed number of decimal places.

  4. Open the main Pivot Table screen and check the Column Area and pivot output to confirm that the column grouping and number display are correct.

  5. Save your project.
