Task Information: General

To access this screen:

Note: The General screen displays by default.

The General screen is used to review and enter basic information for the selected task.

The upper section of the screen is the same for all tabs, and includes the following information.

  • ID – The unique task identifier. When you add a task, the ID is automatically created.

Note: You can't change this field unless Allow task ID's to be changed is checked in Advanced project settings.

  • Name – The task name. Typically, this is created automatically by DTS or a partner application (such as Studio UG or OP), but you can change this. The Name doesn't have to be unique to the project.

  • Type – The type of task. See Task Types.

  • Description – Something describing the task. Edit this if you need to.

Activity steps:

  1. Double-click the task to review or edit.

  2. Define the task header details (see above).

  3. Adjust or review the following task-related properties. Some information is read-only and shown in black (as the value is calculated or specified elsewhere).

    • Duration – The duration of the task. Enter the required value in the format of <value><Unit of time>, where <Unit of time> is one of:

      • mi (minutes)

        h (hours)

        d (days)

        w (weeks)

        mo (months)

        y (years).

Note: The default duration unit is set in the Advanced screen. This is also used if you omit the time unit.

    • Rate – The rate of the task in the format value unit/unit of time. For example, 852.25m/mo means "825.25 meters per month".

    • Total – The value of the Driving Property for the task (see below).

    • Driving Property – The property that defines the progress of the task. For example, a Fixed Rate task with a rate of 5m/day would have a property of Length. This is automatically set depending on task type.

    • Originator – Shows where the task data originated. This will be one of the following:

      • DTS – The task was formed within the DTS application.

      • UG – The task was generated by a connection to Studio UG.

      • OP – The task was generated by a connection to Studio OP.

    • Constraint Type – Specify the constraint type applied to the task.

Note: By default, this is As Soon As Possible (ASAP).

    • Constraint Date – Specify the date when the constraints apply, if applicable. This date is used for both starting and finishing dates, which depend on the selected Constraint Type (see above).

Enter a valid date or browse to display a calendar.

      • This field only applies to Constraint Types other than As Soon As Possible (ASAP) and As Late As Possible.

      • If the Constraint Type is either Must Start On or Must Finish On, an indicator with a red dot displays ().

      • If the Constraint Type is either Start No Earlier than, Start No Later Than, Finish No Earlier Than or Finish No Later Than, an indicator with a blue dot displays ().

    • Calendar – Set the scheduling calendar for the task.

Tip: Select <Project> to use the scheduling calendar assigned at the project level. See Scheduling Calendars.

    • Qty Complete – The value of the driving property that is so far complete.

    • Actual Start – Set the actual date when the task started, or will start. Browse for a calendar.

    • Actual Finish – As above, but stipulate the end date of the task.
