Manage Spatial Polygons

When viewing an asset in the Asset Browser, you can create, edit and view spatial data as polygons within the Map Tab of the Details Pane. Polygons are useful in many instances, including:

  • Setting an area of influence for a joint venture
  • Recording a heritage area
  • Recording a Mining Rehabilitation Fund (MRF) area

You can view existing polygons in the Map Tab of an individual asset, or as a text representation in the Location column of a Data Grids. See Customise the Column Display in a Data Grid.

To create a polygon:

  1. Select the asset you want to attach the polygon to in the Data Grids and select the Map tab.

    A map displays the asset.

  2. Click New.

    A red square is created.

    Note: The New button is disabled if a polygon already exists, or when more than one asset is selected in the data grid.

  3. To move the polygon, drag it to it's location on the map.

  4. To modify the polygon, drag vertex points as required.

  5. To delete a vertex point on the polygon, right-click the vertex point and select Delete Vertex from the menu.

  6. Save the polygon by completing one of the following actions:

    • Double-click the polygon
    • Right-click the polygon and select Save from the menu.

    • The saved polygon turns orange.

      Important: When the polygon is red, it is in editing mode. The polygon must be orange to save the changes.

  7. Click Save or Save and Close.

To edit a polygon:

  1. Select the asset containing the polygon to in the Data Grids and select the Map tab.

  2. Navigate to and right-click on the polygon, select Edit Geometry from the menu.

    The polygon turns red.

  3. Make the necessary modifications to the polygon.

  4. Save the polygon by completing one of the following actions:

    • Double-click the polygon

    • Right-click the polygon and select Save from the menu.

      The saved polygon turns orange.

      Important: When the polygon is red, it is in editing mode. The polygon must be orange to save the changes.

  5. Click Save or Save and Close.

To delete a polygon:

  1. Select the asset containing the polygon to in the Data Grids and select the Map tab.
  2. Navigate to and right-click on the polygon, select Delete Shape from the menu.
  3. Click Save or Save and Close.
