Customize Keyboard
To access this dialog:
-
Display the Customize screen and activate the Keyboard tab.
The Keyboard tab of the Customize screen allows you to configure a key (or a key and modifier such as SHIFT, ALT or CTRL) to access a commonly-used command or process.
Note: this is unrelated to the quick key combination associated with many design commands for example (such as "ns" for new-string, for example). The quick key set here represents a single key press to access a command. Multiple keys aren't supported here.
Tip: show the shortcut key as part of a toolbar command's tooltip by setting the Show shortcut keys in ScreenTips option on the Options tab of the Customize screen.
To customize keyboard functions for your product:
-
Choose a Category of commands. This drop-down list displays all current command groups.
-
The Commands list shows all available commands of the selected Category. Select the command for which you wish to assign a quick key. The Description updates, and if any existing quick key exists for the selected command, it is displayed in Current Keys.
-
Click into the Press New Shortcut Key field and press the key you wish to launch your command. The key name appears in the field. Tip: Use SHIFT, ALT and CTRL keyboard modifiers to include more key combinations.
-
Press Assign to associate the key with your selected command. The name of the key transfers to the Current Keys list.
-
If a key is highlighted in the Current Keys list, you can Remove the association.
-
To restore all key shortcuts to default values throughout your system, click Reset All. Warning: You cannot undo this operation.
