Project Data - Other Files

Using the Other Files section of the Project Data bar

Project Data Control Bar - Other Files

To access this sub-folder:

  • The Other Files folder is a sub-folder of your Project Data control bar. It can be expanded to reveal further categories of data.

"Other" files are local files that sit in your local working environment, and are used to support your survey data reporting, whilst not explicitly used to calculate survey report results. This data can be automatically reloaded when your project is closed and reopened. Essentially, this data represents items that support the survey reporting process, but is not an intrinsic part of those calculations.

These files can be located anywhere accessible to the Studio Survey application (local, network, wide area network) and are referenced within your Studio Survey project file. These file references will persist until you remove them, using the Project Data control bar

This could be data from a wide range of types, although some examples of this type of data could be:

    • A texture-mapped image demonstrating the context of a blast boundary within the locality.
    • Blast hole data, to compare with desurveyed blasthole collar positions
    • Surfaces representing known or interpolated contact surfaces surrounding the areas of interest
    • The strategic model from which pit phase data was borne, or an approved geological counterpart
    • A corporate standard evaluation legend file (.elg)

Typically, these files are used to support your reporting workflow, and can be anywhere directly accessible to your PC (local, LAN, WAN, synchronized Cloud folder).

Files listed in this section may or may not be loaded into memory (whereupon they become "objects").

Context menu items for all files is identical, regardless of their location within the Local Files folder.

Data Categories

These reference files are segregated according to the following data types, and data can appear in multiple folders. The number of items within each section is displayed in brackets:

  • All Files: all non-database files associated with your project are stored here. They will not appear in the corresponding "Database" section of the control bar.

Local Files are listed in alphabetical order, and all data types (3D visual or otherwise) are listed here.
  • Points: if data of the points type has been added to your project, it will be displayed in both the "All Files" (see above) and this folder.
  • Pictures: data of the Pictures data type are displayed here if part of your project.
  • Strings: as above, but for strings data files.
  • Wireframes: as above, but for wireframe data files.

Right-clicking any of the folders above provides the following options:

  • Add: add reference data to your project (but not to your database) either by creating a New File, loading an Existing File in Datamine format or Import Files using one of several data source drivers.
  • Refresh: refresh the current folder contents, synchronizing with the contents of your project. This list will not include any items that are stored within your database, only reference/external data.

Project Folder Menu

At the highest level of the 'tree', a project icon displays. Right-clicking it reveals the following:

Open Containing Folder Open a Windows folder containing the open project.

>> Existing Files Add a file from disk to your project. The file can be of any type.
>> Import Files Use the Data Import screen to import a data file to your project and set up automated data conversion using the Data Source Drivers.
Paste If data has been previously copied to the clipboard, paste it into the target folder.
Open Containing Folder Open a Windows folder containing the open project.

Note: Not all commands in this section may be available. For instance, Re-import is only available if the data was originally imported using Data Source Drivers.

Right-click a file in the Project Files control bar to choose from one of the following options:

Open Open the selected file in the Datamine Table Editor for viewing and editing the file's contents.
Load Load the selected file(s) into memory. If data contains visible elements, the primary 3D window updates to show that data with the default overlay for the data type.
Preview

View the selected file in the InTouch Go utility. Use this utility to preview 2D or 3D data before or after it is loaded into memory

Note: InTouch Go is a standalone application and does not require a license.

Display

Typically used for Plot file types, display the selected file in the legacy Graphics window.

Note: This command launches the DISPLA process.

Re-Import

If the selected file was imported using Data Source Drivers, re-import it using the associated driver and import settings. Use this option when the source file has been edited and the changes need to be shown in the resulting imported Datamine file.

If the selected file was not imported using Data Source Drivers, this option is unavailable.

Export Export the selected data using Datamine's Data Source Drivers facility.
