Extend Strings

Autolayout rule details

Extend Strings

To access this dialog:

This autolayout action can be used to modify existing design data by extending it either from the start or end of each qualifying string segment.

Design data to be modified can be existing strings or strings created in a previous rule. As existing data is being modified, there is no Output Design Definition requirement.

It's a relatively simple action; you choose how much to extend string data at the start and end, or leave a setting at zero if you wish to only extend one end. Strings will be extended using the existing azimuth and gradient as the initial or terminal string edge.

Autolayout Action Options

The Extend Settings dialog for this action contains the following options:

  • Start/End Distance: enter the distance in world measurement units to extend the string in the specified direction.

  • Start/End Azimuth & Dip: choose the projection azimuth and dip for the start or end of a string. Only available if a Distance >0 is set. Azimuth must be in the range 0-360 and Dip in the range 0-90 for degrees, 0-100 for % and any positive number for a ratio.

Both Dip and Azimuth can be set in reference to the original design string or the world coordinates.

  • Move Start/End Point to Extension Location: selecting either check box will force the extended string to start/end at the terminal locations, potentially affecting the start and end location of activities associated with the design string.
