Calculate Haulage Requirements

To access this screen:

  • Tools ribbon >> Tools >> Haulage Requirements.

Once you have prepared the schedule (imported a road network, defined and assigned all destinations) you can calculate the haulage distance (ton km) for each task using this screen.

Calculating Haulage Resources

To calculate the required haulage resources, you have to create and assign a haulage resource to tasks in addition to preparing a road network and destinations.

The algorithm uses a shortest time algorithm to find the route and destination (in cases where generic destinations have been assigned to tasks) for each task. The shortest time route will usually coincide with the shortest path route, but may differ in cases where pantograph lines and gradient of certain sections may make longer routes quicker to traverse.

In cases where a destination is not operating over a period of the task duration, it will select another destination (only if a generic destination is assigned to the task). This can lead to the haulage resource assignment to the task being split in multiple sections.

The cycle time for each source (task) - destination pair is calculated according to options on the Cycle Time Filter tab, and will be the sum of checked items:

  • Loading at source
  • Traveling to destination
  • Queueing at destination
  • Spotting at destination
  • Dumping at destination
  • Traveling to source
  • Queueing at source
  • Spotting at source

The cycle time is used to determine the number of trucks needed on the haulage route to sustain the required production rate.

Activity steps:

  1. Display the Calculate Haulage Requirements screen.
  2. Specify a Start date.
  3. Choose the Production field to move (e.g. Tons) that will represent the haulage quantity.
  4. Specify the Distance scaling factor for the haulage distances (the total cycle distance on the road network is divided by this factor).
  5. Check or uncheck the following general options:
    • Prioritize cycle time over distance
    • Adjust resource requirements
    • Report results for bookmarked tasks
  6. Select the Advanced tab and review and edit the additional haulage parameters. For more details on these settings, please contact your local Datamine support team.
  7. Select the Cycle Time Filter tab and choose which events are included in the cycle time calculation. See Calculating Haulage Resources, above.
  8. Click Calculate.

The algorithm finds the distance to the specified destination (or the closest destination with operating time matching the task) and multiplies it by the production field to move.
