Resource/Target Leveling: Targets
To access this screen:
-
Tools ribbon >> Levelling >> Level and select the Targets tab.
-
Press <F10> and press the Targets tab.
Note: At least one target must be defined in Project Settings before you can access the functions on this screen.
Scheduling a task to start as soon as its predecessors allow, does not take into the account resource capacity constraints. Resource capacity is almost always constrained in real world scenarios, and need to be taken into account.
Levelling resources involve delaying / interrupting tasks until sufficient resources are available. You can do this manually by modifying the task schedule yourself, or you can use the DTS levelling algorithms to do this automatically.
Use this screen to specify if you wish to take production target constraints into account while levelling.
Activity steps:
-
Display the Targets screen.
-
Check Consider targets during leveling to take production targets into account while levelling. This will enable the remainder of the controls on this page. If unchecked, targets are not considered while levelling.
-
Click Use for each Production/summary field targets to use for levelling. The targets displayed here were configured as Project Settings previously. See Targets Screen.
-
At the bottom of the screen, the table shows the targets for the production or summary field that is currently selected in the top grid.
-
The Per Period section is used to select the number of time units for which the targets in the grid below will apply.
Note: This option is only shown for normal non-weighted fields (it is not available for grade (weighted) fields).
-
Enter the Date From which low and high targets apply (see below).
-
Enter the Low target. This is the value below which the target is flagged as low. Whilst this is not relevant for target levelling as this algorithm attempts to achieve the high target limit, it is shown here for completeness, and is the same value visible in the Project Settings screen.
-
Enter the High target. This is the value above which the target is flagged as high. This is the value that target levelling attempts to achieve (thus, it will not exceed).
-
-
Check Trace Leveling to display the Resource Leveling Tracing screen when leveling is processed. This shows detailed information about the leveling process, including the sort order, resource profiles and changes in delay rates for selected tasks at various stages of the process.
-
Click Level Now to run the resource leveling and insert leveling constraints where required.
Warning: All previous resource leveling constraints are automatically cleared before the resource leveling is run.
-
Click Clear Leveling to clear all currently applied leveling constraints from the tasks.
-
-
Close the Resource/Target Leveling screen and save your project.
