Manage Licenses
The check-out and locking status of all licenses served from networked License Servers, and your local (Desktop) server, is displayed on the main Licenses table in License Manager.
The License Manager enables you to perform the basic management functions necessary for running software in a flexible way. Commands are accessed using the toolbars and menus.
License Solutions
Programs and modules can be grouped together so that particular groups contain the software necessary to perform a specific set of tasks. This grouping is called a solution. License Services supports two types of solution:
-
User defined - can be created and edited using the License Manager. This is only available with Solution Management.
-
License key bound - created on installation of the software license key. All components of the solution are bound to the license key. This type of solution can only be changed using a replacement license key with the same identifier.
Note: When a program within a solution of either type is started, the license is locked at the solution level, which means that all programs and modules within the solution are locked.
View Locally Held Licenses
To view all licenses that are held locally (on the computer you are working at), start the License Manager and the default view displays all locally-registered licenses, if any exist. This includes licenses that have been 'checked out' from a server. Checked out licenses are treated as locally registered until the checkout period ends and they are 'returned' to the server for others to use.
View Licenses Held on Remote Servers
If you are working on a networked computer with a remote Network License Server, all available licenses are displayed, both locally and on the remote server. If remote licenses do not appear when you start the License Manager, follow this procedure:
-
Tools >> Remote Servers Options.
-
Make sure Use Remote Servers is checked.
-
Connect to a remote server. See Connect to a Remote Server.
-
Click OK.
Remotely held licenses appear in a new section of the main Licenses table.
Forcibly Unlocking a Licenses
There are exceptional circumstances where a program is no longer in use, but the license remains locked; this can occur when the program has crashed and the normal, controlled shut down procedure has not been followed.
If the license was served from a remote (Department or Enterprise) server, it can only be unlocked from that server, except when the license has been checked-out. A checked-out license becomes the temporary property of the checking-out computer, and management (such as resetting locks) can be performed locally. Licenses cannot be unlocked from any other computer on the network.
-
Select the locked license.
-
Right-click, and select Reset Lock from the context menu.
