Resource Information: Functions (Skills)

A function or skill is considered to be a generic resource that can be replaced by a specific resource closer to the time when it is needed, e.g. a shovel is a generic resource (typically used when planning many years in advance), that could be replaced by a specific shovel at a time point when it is clear which shovel is used. When building up a tree structure of resources in the Crosstab view, the convention is that a resource on any level can be replaced by resources on lower levels. This is implicit. You can also explicitly mark a resource as being replaceable and set up a list of potential candidate resources available to replace with.

Field Description
Replaceable (resource is a skill/function)

This action can be selected either here or from the General tab.

  • If this option is switched on, it means that the resource is replaceable. You can select one or more replacement resource from the grid labelled Resources with current skill.
  • If this resource is not replaceable itself, it may still be in a position to replace another resource (which in turn would have been marked as replaceable). In this case you can select one or more resources to replace from the grid labelled Skills that current resource has.
