DataBlast Upgrade Process

Important: Perform the upgrade of required components in the order as documented below. These activities must be conducted with adequate network, domain and administrator permissions to the installation machines. See User Security and Database Access.

Use this activity to upgrade a DataBlast Pro installation and the DataBlast database.

Activity Steps

  1. Prepare for the upgrade. (DataBlast System Installer / Database Installer)
    1. In the DataBlast Client:
      1. Ensure that all connected BlastPad tablets have completed data synchronisation.

        Note: The status of synchronisation can be viewed in the BlastPad Device Registry section of Site Maintenance in the DataBlast Client.

      2. Disable any active drill log integrations.
    2. Close all DataBlast Client applications and BlastPad applications.
    3. Stop the DataBlast Service:
      1. Open the Windows Services screen.
      2. Right-click the Datamine DataBlast Service and select Properties from the menu.
      3. Set the Startup type to Manual.
      4. Click Stop.
    4. Ensure that you know the logon user configuration for the DataBlast Service, including the password if you are using a named user account.
    5. In SQL Server Management Studio, back up the DataBlast database. You do not need to back up the DataBlast Reporting database.
    6. Back up the folders in C:\ProgramData\Datamine that have configuration settings.

      Important: You must ensure that you have backups in case the system needs to be restored to the previous version.

  2. Upgrade the DataBlast Service. (DataBlast System Installer)
    1. Run the new version of the DataBlast Server install wizard. See Install the DataBlast Pro Applications on the Server.
    2. Reconfigure the logon user for the DataBlast Service if required. See Create the DataBlast Service.
    3. In the service properties, ensure that the Startup type remains set to Manual.
  3. Upgrade the DataBlast database. (Database Installer)
  4. Regenerate the DataBlast Reporting database if required. (DataBlast System Installer / Database Installer)
  5. Upgrade the DataBlast Client on the server machine. (DataBlast System Installer)
    1. Run the new version of the DataBlast Client install wizard. See Install the DataBlast Pro Client Application.
  6. Re-enable drill log importers if required. (DataBlast System Installer)
    1. Start the DataBlast Client application on the server machine. See Start the DataBlast Pro Client Application.
    2. Re-enable drill log importers.
    3. Close the DataBlast Client application.
  7. Start and test the DataBlast Service. (DataBlast System Installer)
    1. In the service properties, set the Startup type to Automatic (Delayed Start).
    2. Start the DataBlast Service. See Start the DataBlast Service.
    3. Start the DataBlast Client application on the server machine.
    4. Load a drill pattern to ensure that the database connections are successful.
    5. Close the DataBlast Client application.
  8. Upgrade the DataBlast Client on all external workstations. (DataBlast Workstation Installer)
    1. Run the new version of the DataBlast Client install wizard.
  9. Upgrade BlastPad on all tablets if required. (DataBlast Workstation Installer)
    1. Run the new version of the BlastPad install wizard. See Install the BlastPad Application.
