Insert a Cross Variogram Component

This topic describes how to insert Cross Variograms using the Cross Variogram component.

Cross Variograms can be inserted under any assay or domain from a dataset with at least two assay types and are made in the same way as regular variograms, but a second assay is added to the first variogram fan through the Configure Variogram Update Properties.

Activity Steps

  1. Insert a variogram fan by right-clicking an assay or domain in the Project Tree and selecting Add » Horizontal Continuity Fan from the menu.
  2. Select the Update tab in the Property Panel.
  3. Select a Cross Assay from the available assays in your dataset in the Assays section of the Property Panel.
  4. Update the variogram fan.
  5. Set the direction of maximum continuity by dragging the protractor (pink arrow) to the correct orientation. For more information, see Selecting the Direction of Maximum Continuity on Variogram Fans.
  6. Insert any remaining required variogram fans (Across Strike or Dip Plane), following the steps in Insert Variogram Fans.
  7. To insert the variogram models, right-click your final variogram fan and select Add » Continuity Models from the menu.
  8. Continue processing your variogram models in the same way as any other variogram. See Variogram Modelling for more information.

Notes:

After you select a second assay type in the Update tab, the variogram type field in the Show section of the Configure Variogram Fan Settings is locked to CrossVariogram.

For directional variogram models, you can ensure that the cross variogram model satisfies the positive semi-definite condition using the Coregionalization tab in the Continuity Models or Directional Variogram properties window. See Cross Variogram Coregionalization.
