Configure Stope Width

In MSO, the stope width defines the minimum and maximum allowable width of stope shapes, as well as the minimum pillar separation between adjacent stopes. Width settings ensure that MSO-generated shapes are both mineable and geotechnically compliant. You can define widths as fixed values or extract them dynamically from the block model.

Activity steps

  1. Configure and MSO scenario and block model.

  2. Define the economics, orientation and framework settings for your stope optimization run.

  3. Display the Shapes screen.

  4. Expand the Stope Width control group.

  5. Choose a Measurement method:

    • Apparent – Width is measured along the slice projection plane.

    • True on Section – Measured orthogonal to the section plane.

    • True – Measured perpendicular to the local dip and strike (true geological width).

  6. Define the width constraints. In all cases you can either set a Fixed Value, or From Block Model to derive a value from the scenario's block model. The type of measurement is picked using Source:

    • Minimum Width – The minimum permissible stope.

    • Maximum Width

    • Minimum Pillar – Defines the minimum required pillar or gap between adjacent shapes. Prevents stope merging and enforces separation.

  7. Save your settings and proceed to define your Configure Stope Dip.
