Preferred Solutions Options

In the main menu, select Tools |Options.
In the Options dialog, select the Preferred Solutions tab.

If software is licensed as a component of a solution, users are presented with a list of solutions when starting the software. Ideally, the solutions should be configured and named in a way that should aid the selection of the most appropriate one.

The Preferred Solutions options assumes that the solutions have been configured and named appropriately.

The first solution license which matches a Preferred Solution name will always be used. If several names are listed, the top name will be checked for available solutions first, then the second and so on, to the bottom of the list.

If none of the solution names match the preferred solution criteria, then an unfiltered list is displayed for the user to select from.

Preferred Solutions

Solution names are entered in the Names box by either clicking New, or double-clicking in the Names box.

A specific name restricts the user to the solution license with that name.
Wildcards may be used to broaden the available choice.

Wildcard Summary

Wildcard	Interpretation
*	Any number of unspecified characters
?	A single unspecified character

Wildcard characters may be used anywhere in a Preferred Solution name, and may indeed constitute the entire name. An entry of * would mean all solutions, whereas "*1" would mean all solutions ending in "1".

A Preferred Solution name of "Geo??????" would narrow the search to any solutions named "Geo", followed by precisely six characters such as "Geology01" or "Geography".
